The Assembly of Laodicea

Background and History:

Laodicea on the Lycus (Greek: Λαοδίκεια πρὸς τοῦ Λύκου; Latin: Laodicea ad Lycum, also transliterated as Laodiceia or Laodikeia) (modern Turkish: Laodikeia) was an ancient city built on the river Lycus (Çürüksu). It was located in the Hellenistic regions of Caria and Lydia, which later became the Roman Province of Phrygia Pacatiana. It is now situated near the modern city of Denizli.  This particular city was near Hierapolis and not too far from Colossae.  Hierapolis was well known for their “Hot Springs” and Colossae for their cold fresh waters.  As the waters run through the aqueduct to the city of Laodicea from Hierapolis it became “Lukewarm” waters (this could be emedic).

  • 2000 BC Originally founded by the Ionians as a relatively small town of Diospolis.
  • 19th Century BC the Hittites added it to their empire.
  • 900 BC captured by the Phrygians and soon afterward by the Lydians (renamed Rhoas).
  • 250 BC taken by the Syrians.
  • Antiochus II rebuilt the town renaming it after his wife “Laodice”.
  • 190 BC Became part of the kingdom of Pergamos.
  • Ultimately pass into the hands of the Roman Empire.
  • It was recorded by several historians, such as Josephus, of been populated by a great Jewish colony.

Economy:

  • The economy of the city was based on;
    • Bankers
    • Merchants
    • Gold refiners
  • I was in a junction roads leading from Ephesus and Smyrna.
  • It is recorded the caravan trades where as far as the “Yellow River” in Punjab by the China Sea.
  • Populated with very Wealthy Society members of the area, it was considered a “Neutral City” and never in need of a military power to defend it.
  • During the middle of the First Century, it was destroyed by an earthquake and rather on waiting, or asking for, or even depending on any help from the Roman Empire, its own society members rebuild it without any help from Rome. This was indicative of a very “prideful society”.
  • There are many architectural remains today testifying of its former luxury.
  • Textile Manufacturing was well known in the region at the time. The production and manufacturing of “Black Wool” (from a very particular strain of sheep bred in the Lycus Valley) with a glossy look and a soft and warm texture.  It was used in Clothing and Carpets.

Science:

The city was also well known for their school of medicine, especially for an ointment known at the time as “Phrygian Powder” ( a mixture of oil and collyrium powder).

Definition:

the Name of Laodicea
G2994

Λαοδικεύς

Laodikeus

lah-od-ik-yooce’

From G2993; a Laodicean, that is, inhabitant of Laodicia: – Laodicean.

Total KJV occurrences: 2

The  name of this particular city is a compound name;  “Lao” = people and “Diceans”= rulers, “Rule by the People”, this mean it was a democratic government, we will never know.  Never the less when this particular letter is brought to the point of view from the assembly (church), it is obvious that the “Ruler” of the Church is and always will be the Lord Jesus Christ.

Inside the Word:

Rev 3:14 LITV

(14)  And to the angel of the assembly of Laodicea, write: These things says the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Head of the creation of God:

The verse 14 of this chapter Three in Revelation, starts by, as the other letters from the Lord, assigned to the angel that was going to deliver it to the assembly of Laodicea.  Many of you have had heard traditionally that this is referring to the leader of the assembly, and that the Lord is directing the letter to such individual.  I do not share this point of view.  I clearly explained the reasons why on one of my previous letters on my Blog, but for the benefits of many, I will retouch some of those points that make me think differently from the traditional way.

  1. God is dictating this letter to John the Apostle and is not dictating to John to send this letter to the leader of this particular assembly. God tells directly to John to “…write…”, but what I believe the phrase is indicating is the command from God to the messenger or angel assign for this direct communication with this assembly, so He cal the angel to be alert and ready.  God always rely on His angels to deliver the messages and answers that the people of God are either requesting in prayer or the Lord God in His mercy send to them.
  2. God works through mysterious ways, and as you know the apostle was left on the island of Patmos to die due to his sentence. My question to you is, how the letters came to the hands of the assemblies?  How the letters came to be known after the apostle wrote them?  In one way or another, it does require a special messenger to delivered them in the event of a spiritual battle take place.  Please referred to the Book of Daniel Chapter 10 (read below);
    1. Dan 10:12-13 LITV
      1. (12) And he said to me, Do not fear, Daniel. For from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard. And I have come because of your words.
      2. (13) But the king of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty one days. But, lo, Michael, one of the first rulers, came to help me. And I stayed there with the kings of Persia.

In the assembly of the Lord (The Church), not one and I mean no one is above of anyone, all the members of the assembly have the same responsibilities and obligations, everyone is equal in the eyes of the Lord.  Please read the following:

  1. Luk 22:24-30 LITV
    1. (24) And there was also a dispute among them, who of them seems to be greater.
    2. (25) And He said to them, The kings of the nations lord it over them, and those exercising authority over them are called benefactors.
    3. (26) But you be not so, but the greater among you, let him be as the lesser; and the one governing as the one
    4. (27) For who is greater, the one reclining, or the one serving? Is it not the one reclining? But I am in your midst as One
    5. (28) But you are those continuing with Me in My temptation.
    6. (29) And I appoint a kingdom to you, as My Father appointed to Me,
    7. (30) that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom; and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Orthographically it is very important to notice the separator that exists between the name of the assembly and the command verb, it is a comma “,” which exist to denote a pause and a separation of time and direction.  It is like if after He directs His command to the angel calling for his attention, He looked to the apostle giving to the apostle the command to write.  Never the less that is much irrelevant in regard to the message of the letter to the assembly, I think.

As we continue to noticed in this particular verse 14 of chapter 3 in the Book of Revelation, there are three descriptive Titles for the Identification of the Lord God:

  1. …These things says the Amen…
    1. G281
    2. ἀμήν / amēn / am-ane’
    3. Of Hebrew origin [H543]; properly firm, that is, (figuratively) trustworthy; adverbially surely (often as interjection so be it): – amen, verily.
      1. Total KJV occurrences: 152
        1. H543
          1. אָמֵן / ‘âmên / aw-mane’
          2. From H539; sure; abstractly faithfulness; adverbially truly: – Amen, so be it, truth.
            1. Total KJV occurrences: 30

This particular descriptive title occurs only once in the Bible, that is on this particular occasion only.  It is very clear that God is assuring His Church that Hi is the One to be trusted

  1. …the faithful and true Witness…
    1. Once again this particular descriptive title is used only in this particular verse of this chapter in the Bible. But the difference in this title versus the first one is that in this second title God is using two:
      1. …faithful…
      2. …true Witness…
    2. Notice also how the word “Witness” is spelled out, with capital letter “W”, indicative of the authority and ownership of His Name and position. He is our only Witness to the Father.
  2. The third and most impressive of them all is the one He uses here; …the Head of the creation of God…
    1. To get into the analysis of this particular title used here by the Lord God, will take much longer that we can have for this particular Blog, but let be brief;
      1. First, if you count the words used in this particular title, using the “KJV” or the “LITV” of the Bible notice that there are a total of seven words, indicative of “Consummation”, this is indicating that Jesus is not only the Beginning of the Creation (see; Gen 1:1; 1:26: John 1: 1-5) and also He is the Consummation of ALL Creation (Rev 21: 6).
    2. Christ is the “Head” of the Body (Col 1:17-20), which is the Church (1Co 12:27; Eph 5:30)

Rev 3:15 LITV

(15)  I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I would that you were cold, or hot.

In this particular letter to the assembly of Laodicea, the Lord goes directly to the point without hesitation.  There is no commendations on this letter, nothing good at all to say, and neither any softening words of consolation.  There is no place to hide from the presence of the Almighty.  God is telling this assembly that there is one way and one way only to do the works in the field of the Lord’s Gospel, and that is to proceed and act as is requested by Him in His Word.  That preaching the Word of the Gospel of the Lord is not just about screaming it out of our lungs in front of a multitude, or to proceed to do good for us to be seeing by others, or even to do good deeds to those that blessed us only, not at all.  But to live a life as “Ambassadors” of the Gospel of Truth in the Lord Jesus Christ and from which, we can bring to the knowledge of salvation, those that never heard of such wonderful Way of Life.  If we are capable of living our lives as is described by the Lord’s Word, we as “Followers of the Way” not only will discover the truthful happiness of “Living”, but then again we will become witnesses of the Gospel of Christ through our actions.

By us, as followers of the Lord, living our lives as we are requested on the Word of God, our lives will grow without us even noticing such changes.  The more we act and live as true Christians, the closer we will be to the Lord.  Every day becomes a step closer to the “man” that the Lord wants us to become, and a step farther from the man that we were in our past life.  There is no science into this, there is no mystery, there is absolutely nothing but a simple step forward to the man that the lord wants us to become every day in Him.

Many leaders, preachers, minister and others concentrate on the fact that this is “not cold nor hot waters, but instead lukewarm”, and indeed that is very important in this letter.  But the fact is not this assembly is “lukewarm” but more so the reason why is a “lukewarm”.

Rev 3:16-18 LITV

(16)  So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to vomit you out of My mouth.

(17)  Because you say, I am rich, and I am made rich, and I have need of nothing, and do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.

(18)  I advise you to buy from Me gold having been fired by fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, and your shame and nakedness may not be revealed. And anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.

Many time over in our lives we can tell our mistakes and also the road we are taking is the wrong road to take, but on our own risk and blinded by our own understanding we continue without hesitation moving forward until we fall, and is then at that very moment we start to look for the hand of the Lord to come to our help.

Verse 16 chapter 3 in Revelation tell us just that, we should look once again at what the Book of Proverbs tells us about it:

  1. Pro 3:1-12 LITV

(1)  My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands,

(2)  for they shall add length of days and long life and peace to you.

(3)  Mercy and truth will not forsake you, tie them on your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart,

(4)  and you shall find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

(5)  Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding.

(6)  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

(7)  Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear Jehovah and depart from evil.

(8)  Healing shall be to your navel and marrow to your bones.

(9)  Honor Jehovah with your substance, and with the firstfruits of all your increase,

(10)  and your barns shall be filled with plenty, and your presses shall burst with new wine.

(11)  My son, do not reject the chastening of Jehovah, and do not loathe His correction;

(12)  for whom Jehovah loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son with whom he is pleased.

Please read verse 17 of Chapter 3 in Revelation, and you will come to the same conclusion as mine, there is nothing in the Word of God about us imposing our will over the will of the Creator, and expect all to be great and accepted in the eyes of the Lord.  That is what is happening in this assembly.  A misconception of life fundamental values and the misappropriation of such as we disrupt our own way of life and path of our mortal journey.  We do understand that there is a purpose for our lives in the Christian journey, but to reject the notion that we as a human can’t take control of our own journey make us challenge the very principal for the one we, as “Followers of the Way”, had been called:

  1. Rom 8:28-29 LITV

(28)  But we know that to the ones loving God all things work together for good, to those being called according to purpose;

(29)  because whom He foreknew, He also predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son, for Him to be the First-born among many brothers.

By rejecting the role that we had been given and possess our own interpretation of what we think we should be and we are, based on our “own understanding”.  We become blindfolded to the spiritual truth on the eye of the One that predestines us to be who we must be under His will.  At that very moment, we are no longer part of Him, who called us, but a member of this world looking to be like the ones that are not from this world.  By doing so, we are part of something that doesn’t belong to the Body of Christ but a “Spot” on the Gospel of the Lord.

Once again, GOD is willing to give us the opportunity to be part of His Body (The Church), and the only way to do so is as in verse 18 of chapter three in Revelation indicates, we must buy directly from HIM, the gold that has been fired by fire.  For you and I, in this contemporary world, this expression may not make much sense at all, but for the assembly in question, this is very clear to them.  Their main economy was based, in three important and key items.  What will be accomplished by doing what it is said by God in this particular verse?  Let see:

  1. Refine Gold
    1. One important key element of their economy was the refinery of Gold.
    2. We are getting what we need from the Main Supplier, no middle man, no misunderstanding, no confusion, no dilemmas, no disruption of supply, no impurity on the product (none).
    3. Buying gold at the main source provider will not only give you the certainty of receiving a quality product but and unlimited source of the gold needed. This will make you rich in every way imaginable.
  2. Textile
    1. Another key item on their economy was the “Black Wool”, used among other things for garments.
    2. The Lord is asking to this assembly to get garments from Him, not the regular “Black Wool” but instead “White Garments”.
    3. Why so important? You may ask;
      1. White Garment are more balance and delicates to the appearance.
      2. White Garments are the one that the Church will be adorned with and no other color or imitation of it, none.
  3. Medicine
    1. The Lord in a brief but very clear and explicit way expressed to the assembly that if they get from Him the anointing of the Holy Spirit and to get into the WORD of GOD. Here in this part of the verse, there are two words we must look in an individual way to understanding them:
    2. Anoint;
      1. G1472 / ἐγκρίω / egchriō / eng-khree’-o
      2. From G1722 and G5548; to rub in (oil), that is, besmear: – anoint.
        1. Total KJV occurrences: 1
    3. Eye salve
      1. G2854 /  Κολλούριον / kollourion / kol-loo’-ree-on
      2. Neuter of a presumed derivative of κολλύρα kollura (a cake; probably akin to the base of G2853); properly a poultice (as made of or in the form of crackers), that is, (by analogy) a plaster: – eyesalve.
      3. Total KJV occurrences:
      4. So the Lord is asking to this assembly to rub in the oil of the Holy Spirit to be able to eat the “Bread” through their eyes of spiritual knowledge of the WORD of GOD, which is the “Bread of Life”.
        1. Eph_1:13  in whom also you, hearing the Word of Truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also believing you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
        2. Eph_4:29  Let not any filthy word go out of your mouth, but if any is good to building up in respect to the need, that it may give grace to the ones hearing.
        3. Col_3:17  And everything, whatever you do in word or in work, do all things in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father through Him.
        4. 2Th_2:17  encourage your hearts, and may He establish you in every good word and work.
        5. 2Ti_4:2  preach the Word, be urgent in season, out of season, convict, warn, encourage with all long-suffering and teaching.

Rev 3:19 LITV

(19)  I, as many “as I love, I rebuke and I chasten.” Be zealous, then, and repent. Prov. 3:12

Verse 19 of chapter three in the Book of revelation is as clear and simple, that only by spiritual blindness the individual won’t be able to understand.  God desire for all us the only best from Him.  As a Father, He only rebukes and chastens the ones He loves.  All you and I must be very dedicated to observed is to ask in prayer, that we (you and I) can and will be counted among those to be “rebuke and chasten” by the love of Christ and under His Mercy.  There is a very important point to observed on this verse and that is that the believer must step in and not just to “REPENT” but for the process of repentance to take effect in the heart of the believer, it must be creating with it some degree of zealously, moving the life of the believer to a life of action.

  • Pro 3:11-12 LITV
    • (11)  My son, do not reject the chastening of Jehovah, and do not loathe His correction;
    • (12)  for whom Jehovah loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son with whom he is pleased.

Rev 3:20 LITV

(20)  Behold, I stand at the door and knock: If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will enter to him, and I will dine with him, and he with Me.

In this verse 20, the Lord says to the assembly very clearly that He stand at the Door.  In previous chapters and verses we see how the Lord is in the midst of the assembly but in this particular case, the Lord is outside the door.  It is a dramatical implication to it.

  1. In ancient times doors were designed with only one lock or secure mechanism, but from the inside of the house, and not to be capable of being open from the outside as it is done today. The implication here is very important because required from the believer to open the door for any visual communication to take
  2. The second point to consider is that the invitation is to the individual and not to the assembly. The Lord specifically said, “…If Anyone…”, this is an individual invitation to take action and not a group invitation for the action to take place.  Each individual is part of the Church and the individual is the important and integral part of the plan of Salvation.  He/she  are the Temple of God and as result of the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross, he/she is the Body of Christ which is the Church.
  3. The Lord is inviting the individual that give him/herself to the Lord to be partaker of the Glory of the Lord.

Rev 3:21 LITV

(21)  The one overcoming, I will give to him to sit with Me in My throne, as I also overcame and sat with My Father in His throne.

Here is the promise to the overcomer, and that is to sit with the Lord in His throne…  This is very special promise because the throne that was given to the Lord Jesus Christ, in addition, to be sitting with the Father in Heaven was also the one of “King David”.  But King David’s throne was not in existence at the time of Jesus Birth, how could that be, you may ask?

Here is a Biblical reference that will clear for you that question:

  1. Luk 1:29-33 KJV
    1. (29)  And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
    2. (30)  And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
    3. (31)  And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
    4. (32)  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
    5. (33)  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Rev 3:22 LITV

(22)  The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.

And of course here is the closing statement from the Holy Spirit to the ones that are not only reading this but more so hearing this message of Salvation.  If you have an ear hear what the Holy Spirit is telling you.  The Lord Is Coming Soon, Be Ready!

The Assembly of Philadelphia

I. Geographical / Historical point of View:

  • G5359
  1. Φιλαδέλφεια (Philadelpheia) fil-ad-el’-fee-ah
    1. From Φιλάδέλφος Philadelphos (the same as G5361), a king of Pergamos; Philadelphia, a place in Asia Minor: – Philadelphia.
    2. City of Brotherly Love

Total KJV occurrences: 2

Sat in the Plateau in a river valley.  Located in the region of Lydia at the foot Mount Tmolus, twenty-four miles east of Sardis, and seventy-two from Smyrna.  An agricultural economy renowned for its vineyards.  Its coins bore the head of Bacchus and the figure of a Bacchante.  Bacchus was the main deity of the Romans (Bacchus – (classical mythology) god of wine; the equivalent of Dionysus).

This was the youngest of the cities acquired by Pergamos in 189 BC.  This city was used by the Romans as an outreach post for the “Greek Culture” due to the location in the area. In 17 AD was destroyed almost totally by an earthquake and the tremors were felt for years after the main event. The main population was composed of Jews, Christians and converted Heathens.  During the mid-1600 it was surrounded by the Islamist and Byzantine forces that were located in Turkey.  It wasn’t but until 20 years after that the city succumb to the forces by being deprived of all the basics for subsistence.

Of all the seven churches it had the longest duration of prosperity as a Christian city. It still exists as a Turkish town under the name of Allah Shehr, “City of Allah”; many historians and translators define this term as “City of god” implying that “Allah” is another name for the “Only Living GOD YHWH”, such implication and assumption are far from the truth.

One of the mosques is believed by the native Christians, to have been the gathering-place of the church addressed in Revelation. “One solitary pillar of high antiquity has been often noticed as reminding beholders of the words in Rev_3:12 : ‘Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God.’”

II.  Inside the Text:

Rev 3:7 LITV

(7)  And to the angel of the assembly in Philadelphia, write: These things says the Holy One, the True One, the One having “the key of David,” “the One opening, and no one shuts; and shuts, and no one opens:” Isa. 22:22

In Revelation 3 verse 7 we start to see the letter to the assembly of the location in the city of Philadelphia.  The letter started by the Lord given the order to the angel who will be the messenger of the assembly, to be ready to bring forward the message or letter.  This subject was covered in the letter of Sardis with more in depth, so please refer to “The Assembly of Sardis”.

GOD continues by ordering to the prophet John the apostle to write what he is seeing and hearing during God’s dictation.

What we will bring our main attention to the titles chosen by GOD in this particular letter;

  1. The Holy One
  2. The True One
  3. The One having “the Key of David”
  4. The One opening
  5. The One no one shuts
  6. The One that shuts
  7. The One that no one opens

There is another Book in the Bible that makes reference to the above names and Titles chosen by God, that is located in Isa 22:22, Let’s read it;

  • Isa 22:22 LITV
    • (22) And the key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder, so that he opens, and no one shuts; and he shuts, and no one opens.

In the verse of the Book of Isaiah 22:22 the person who is declaring and describing the Titles is the Father GOD toward His Son Jesus Christ, but in the Book of revelation is Jesus Himself who is declaring such Titles and authority over them.  Of course, we know that there is only ONE GOD and He is a Trilogy, Father God “YHWH”, His Only Begotten SON Jesus Christ our Savior, and The Holy Spirit.

Also noticed how the Devil is trying to imitate and trying to “be like” God Himself in every and anyway since the beginning of time:

  • Isa 14:12-15 LITV
    • (12)Oh shining star, son of the morning, how you have fallen from the heavens! You weakening the nations, you are cut down to the ground.
    • (13)For you have said In your heart, I will go up to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit in the mount of meeting, in the sides of the north.
    • (14)I will rise over the heights of the clouds; I will be compared to the Most High.
    • (15)Yet you shall go down to Sheol, to the sides of the Pit.

The devil as default, is trying to copying GOD’s action on having his own city as God have the city of Jerusalem, in this case, it is renaming the city that represented the “Brotherly Love” and holding strong for many years against the Islamic invasion as Allah Shehr, “City of Allah.

Rev 3:8 LITV

(8)  I know your works. Behold, I have given a door being opened before you, and no one is able to shut it, for you have a little power and have kept My Word, and have not denied My name.

Verse eight in the same chapter three in the Book of Revelation show us how GOD in an immediate way declares to the assembly what He knows.  God does not go around the subject, nor confuses the assembly but instead it goes directly to the subject in question.  For all the believers one thing is for sure and that is, God is not a God of confusion;

  • 1Co_14:33 For God is not of confusion, but of peace, as in all the assemblies of the saints.
  • Jas_3:16 For where jealousy and contention are, there is confusion and every foul deed.

Continuing on our subject, we must ask ourselves concerning which “works” does God is referring too?

The word “work” is defined by the Strong dictionary as follows;

  • G2041
  • ἔργον / ergon / er’-gon
  • From ἔργω ergō (a primary but obsolete word; to work); toil (as an effort or occupation); by implication an act: – deed, doing, labour, work.
  • Total KJV occurrences: 176

God knows the actions of compassion, the behavior, and doings of this particular assembly.  There is nothing that is hidden from the eyes of the Lord, remember.

God continues declaring how He gave a door open before the believer as if the believer had a choice to which he and only him (the believer / follower of the WAY) will be able to reach at any time he will like to get out of whichever place he is  in. we can see this in the following verses:

  • Isa_48:17 So says Jehovah, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, I am Jehovah your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.
  • Jer_10:23 O Jehovah, I know that his way does not belong to man; it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.
  • Mat_7:14 For narrow is the gate, and constricted is the way that leads away into life, and few are the ones finding it.
  • Luk_1:79 to appear to those sitting in darkness and in shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace. 9:2
  • Joh_14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

This particular door which He and only Him can open and shuts it has to be seeing once before in human history.  During the flood in where the Lord God saved Noah and his family with him.

  • Gen 7:16 LITV

(16)  And those going in went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him. And Jehovah shut him within.

As you can see even though we as believers have the option to walk through the door open for us, there is only One that open and shuts the door, that is the Lord GOD.

In Rev 3:7 the lord continues saying that the assembly has “little power”, many might think this has to do with the power of the Holy Spirit among believers and it might be so.  I do have a different point of view, and this is the following;  The mentioning here of a “little power” is (in my personal interpretation) the degree and level of Faith you have when you act toward the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit is part of GOD Himself, but in order for anyone to have part of the kingdom of GOD, you must have Faith on the One that gives Himself on the Cross.  Read below:

  • Hab_2:4 Behold, the soul of him is puffed up and is not upright; but the just shall live by his faith.

  • Rom_5:1 Then being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Also, the Lord continues saying that the assembly kept His Word. And have not used His Name in vain.

These two responsibilities are normally overlooked by the believer of the Lord and or in many instances it is also misunderstood.  We as believers of the Lord Jesus Christ, we don’t belong to this world, but on the other hand, we are citizens of Heaven.  While we are here in this world, the believer must represent the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in an ambassadorship authority and responsibility state of mind.  When you are designated to be an ambassador of any given Country, you will be placed in a limited boundary area, normally a building and designated area for that building, that will represent the Country you are from.  the Laws abiding that particular small area is the Laws of your Country and not the one that is hosting you.  At the same time, you as an ambassador must behave in an ethical, moral, spiritual and for that matter in all and every way in a responsible and respectful manner toward the Host.  Otherwise, you will be asked to leave losing all power and authority, putting a shameful spot on your Country represented.

That is exactly what we, the believer of Jesus Christ are commanded to do as we are going through this world.  We don’t belong to this world but we are representing the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ to everyone that has contact with us in one way or other.  Read below:

Joh_8:23  And He said to them, You are from below; I am from above. You are from this world; I am not from this world.

Joh_18:36  Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would have fought that I might not be delivered up to the Jews. But now My kingdom is not from here.

1Jn_4:3  And every spirit which does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not from God; and this is the antichrist which you heard is coming, and now is already in the world.

Eph 3:15 KJV

2Co_4:4  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Eph_6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Jas_2:5  Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

Mat_24:14  And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Act_22:15  For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

Rev 3:9 LITV

(9)  Behold, I give out of the synagogue of Satan those saying themselves to be Jews, and they are not, but they lie. Behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they shall know that I loved you.

In this verse 9 of Chapter 3 of Revelation is also in part related to what the Lord God said to the assembly of Smyrna (persecuted assembly) in chapter 2:9 (notice please, it is the same verse number different chapter), let’s read this verse:

Rev 2:9 LITV

(9)  I know your works, and the affliction, and the poverty; but you are rich. And I know the evil speaking of those saying themselves to be Jews, and they are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

Those that the Lord God is referring as “synagogue of Satan” they call themselves to be “Jews”, as if these individuals are boasting on saying they are Jews when they are not.  This most be for a special, particular and important reason.  It is my belief and understanding that by this synagogue of impostors calling themselves Jews without being so, is giving to them and their followers the appearance and boasting needed for them to be able to get the internal in-depths knowledge and understanding of the assembly, becoming spies among the Body of the assembly.  It is important to know that the devil does not have the Holy Spirit in him nor his followers, and for you to have the power of the Holy Spirit you must be given yourself to the Lord in the body, mind, and soul.  Without such power from above, you will not be able to understand the Word of the Gospel of Salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ.   The only way the enemy can understand the battle field from the other side is by infiltrating spies capable of diluting the knowledge from the believers that have such knowledge, bring that knowledge acquired, to their side, in order for the devil to be more prepared to confront and subjugate those with the Word of Truth.  In such way that even when the devil knows the Word “verbatim”, he is capable of distorting it but incapable of understanding it in the spiritual life.  Two examples of such power from the synagogue of Satan are:

  1. The moment the Lord Jesus was fastening (Read Mathew 4:1-11)
  2. The moment in where the serpent quotes the Word of GOD to the woman in the Garden but in a distorted way (Read Genesis 3)

This is a reason why the apostle Paul ask to the assembly to test ourselves:

  • 2Co_13:5Examine yourselves, whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Or do you not yourselves perceive that Jesus Christ is in you, unless you are disapproved?
  • 1Th_5:21Test all things, hold fast the good.
  • 1Co_11:28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread, and let him drink of the cup;
  • 2Co_13:5  Examine yourselves, whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Or do you not yourselves perceive that Jesus Christ is in you, unless you are disapproved?

The devil is the father of all deceivers, capable of transforming himself into an angel of light:

  • 2Co_11:14And did not Satan marvelously transform himself into an angel of light?

Notice how the Lord Himself is indicating to the assembly that He will make them (those of the synagogue of Satan) come and bow down to the feet of the assembly and they will know how deep is the love of Christ for the Body of Christ call the Church.

Rev 3:10 LITV

(10)  Because you kept the Word of My patience, I also will keep you out of the hour of trial which is going to come on all the habitable world in order to try those dwelling on the earth.

If we continue with the same theme in mind, we will understand better the meaning of this verse, that is the Lord God will reward us with the “rapture of the Church” (Greek verb is harpazō (ἁρπάζω)) if and only if “we” as the assembly will keep the Word of GOD encouraging, instructing and teaching each other until the end, but with the Word of Truth.

It is very interesting to notice that in the above verse (Rev 3:10), The Lord God made a very specific mention of what is known by the Body of Christ as the “Great Tribulation” but the term He used is “The Hour of Trial”.  This assembly “will not” go through such event.  This is not a normal trial period in human history, this is a very specific trial time in which humanity (dwellers on the Earth = those belong to Earth = those without the Seal of the Holy Spirit) will go through.

Rev 3:11 LITV

(11)  Behold, I am coming quickly. Hold what you have that no one take your crown.

Once again the Lord God is advising the assembly that He is coming by surprise.  There is no doubt on the side of the believer that such event is expected to happen anytime.  We as the Body of Christ should not be caught up by surprise as is stated, as long as we keep the Word of the Lord as our main source of information, instruction and education keeping us alert.  It does also advise us to hold what we have as if there was a strong wind or some kind of strong sudden move or reaction, opposite to our direction and moving against us, trying to trow us away and breaking us apart.

The term “crown” used here is defined as follows, in the strong numbers:

  • G4735
  • Στέφανος = (stephanos) stef’-an-os
    • From an apparently primary “stepho” (to twine or wreathe); a chaplet (as a badge of royalty, a prize in the public games or a symbol of honor generally; but more conspicuous and elaborate than the simple fillet, G1238), literally or figuratively: – crown.

Rev 3:12 LITV

(12)  The one overcoming, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall not go out anymore. And I will write the name of My God on him, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem which comes down out of Heaven from My God, and My new name.

On verse 12, the Lord continues on his message to the assembly by giving to the one overcoming a few rewards:

The term Overcomer in the Dictionary is define as follows:

  1. succeeds in dealing with (a problem or difficulty).

synonyms:                      get the better of, prevail over, control, get/bring under control, master, conquer, defeat, beat; More

  1. defeat (an opponent); prevail.

synonyms:                      defeat, beat, conquer, trounce, thrash, rout, vanquish, overwhelm, overpower, get the better of, triumph over, prevail over, win over/against, outdo, outclass, worst, crush; More

  1. (of an emotion) overpower or overwhelm.

synonyms:             overwhelmed, emotional, moved, affected, speechless

The Lord continue indicating that He (The Lord) will make the overcomer a pilar in the temple of “…My GOD…”.

It is interesting how the Lord Himself demonstrates respect and to venerate the Only Living GOD “YHWH”; even when He Himself is God Himself.  The Lord also makes mention of making the overcomer a pillar in the Temple of GOD.  As you remember and based on historical data, this particular city was devastated by many tremors and put to the ground, what was standing for future generations was exactly a residual of a pilar from the temple of the city.  By the Lord making the overcomer the pilar of such temple of GOD, that verifies what the Word of God had said all alone in respect to us as a member of the Body of Christ, and that is that we are the Temple of the Lord:

  • 2Co_6:16And what agreement does a temple of God have with idols? For you are a temple of the living God, even as God said, “I will” dwell in them and “walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” 26:12; Ezek. 37:27

The Lord continues and expressed how He will write:

  1. the name of GOD “YHWH”
  2. the name of Jerusalem, the city of GOD
    1. You must remember in the history of this particular assembly the name was changed by the “Islamist” after it was conquered, and GOD will correct such heresy and make it as it should be for ever and ever lasting.
  3. “New Name of the SON of GOD”

in the overcomer; this alone is a significant point, because;

  1. You are sanctified, holy, separated, dedicated, claim, sacred, purified
  2. You have been given the “Seal of Approval by the Holy Spirit of GOD”
  3. You will not be “LOST”

Once again the Lord God is making clear that this letter is not only for one and only one assembly but for “ALL” of those that are part of the Body of Christ.

We all must listen and be prepared because “Time is NEAR”.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

The Assembly of Thyatira

Historical and Geographical Background:

Situated on the confines of Mysia and Ionia. According to Pliny it was known in earlier times as Pelopia and Euhippia.  The city was known as “Pelopia” (Greek language: Πελοπία), but it was named Thyateira (Θυάτειρα) by king Seleucus I Nicator in 290 BC. He was at war with Lysimachus when he learned that his wife had given birth to a daughter. Its prosperity received a new impulse under the Roman Emperor Vespasian. The city contained a number of corporate guilds, as potters, tanners, weavers, robe-makers, and dyers. It was from Thyatira that Lydia the purple-seller of Philippi came, Paul’s first European convert, (Read the following;

Act_16:14  And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple of the city of Thyatira, one reverencing God, listened, whose heart the Lord opened thoroughly to pay attention to the things being spoken by Paul.

Act_16:40  And going out from the prison, they went into the house of Lydia. And seeing the brothers, they exhorted them, and went out.).

The numerous streams of the adjacent country were full of leeches. The principal deity of the city was Apollo, worshipped as the Sun-God under the surname Tyrimnas. A shrine outside the walls was dedicated to Sambatha, a sibyl. The place was never of paramount political importance.

Illustrated Map of the Patmos Island and the Seven Assemblies.

Map of the Asia Minor area with location of Thyatira

Religious Background:

Nicator named it “Thyatira” (Greek, “thygater”, for daughter) on being informed that a daughter had been born to him.  Thyateira (also Thyatira) was the name of the modern Turkish city of Akhisar (“white castle”). The name comes from Koine Greek “Θυάτειρα” (Thuateira). The Turkish equivalent of Thyateira is Tepe Mezarlığı, meaning hill graveyard.

This city became well known for the center for trade guilds.  Memberships were compulsory and also essentials for the privileged and purpose of trading.  Corporate bodies, well organized must add, providing few benefits and taking actions in their interests.  Each guild was under the patronage of a pagan deity, to whom were paid proceedings, feast and in other meaningful manner every year to that particular pagan deity.  The believer must be a participant of the pagan activity which also had an essential appeal to the flesh.  This was very difficult to the new believer in Christ because there is only One God and Savior, Jesus Christ the Only Lord and Way.

In 1922, the Patriarch of Constantinople appointed an Exarch for Western and Central Europe with the title Archbishop of Thyateira. The current Archbishop of Thyateira (since 1988) is Gregorios Theocharous. The Archbishop of Thyateira resides in London and has pastoral responsibility for the Greek Orthodox Church in the United Kingdom.  The see of Thyatira is also included, without archiepiscopal rank, in the Catholic Church’s list of titular sees.

This particular assembly represent the medieval papacy (600 A.D. to 1500 A.D.).  Among all the seven assemblies, this particular one was the least of them in a geographical area (size of the city was the smallest among the seven assemblies) but the longest of the letters dictated by the Lord to John.

The Assembly:

Let’s start with the Bible Study of this particular assembly.

Rev 2:18

(18)  And to the angel of the assembly in Thyatira, write: These things says the Son of God, the One having His eyes as a flame of fire, and His feet like burnished brass:

In the previous verse please notice once again, as in the past messages send by the Lord to the other assemblies that he called his angel that have the specific task of the delivery of this message or letter.  As always this is very important because the Lord is confining this important task to someone that He can trust and knows will not let Him down during the process of the delivery of the letter.  There a few remarkable moments described by the Bible in where some of the messengers of the Lord had been intercepted by the devil and it has been trying in a delivery manner by the devil, to interfered and intercept such message, to either stop totally the delivery or delay until the very last minute such delivery. It is why the Lord name specifically angels for the delivery of messages.  Here is an example of this event;

Dan 10:12-13

(12)  And he said to me, Do not fear, Daniel. For from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard. And I have come because of your words.

(13)  But the king of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty one days. But, lo, Michael, one of the first rulers, came to help me. And I stayed there with the kings of Persia.

In the same command voice the Lord said… “, write”…  This particular command was designated to John, whose is used by the Lord as a scribed for the message.

The Lord God continues His dictation to John by saying the following;…” These things says the Son of God, the One having His eyes as a flame of fire, and His feet like burnished brass:”, and the first thing you must noticed is the pluralistic term God uses at the beginning of the message in relation to the different subjects He wants us to know. Right after the Lord is described as (the below charts are based on the LITV Bible (Literal Translation of the Bible) (you will find this translation on http://www.e-Sword.net this is a trusted and completely free of charge software)):

These are all attributes that only you can find them under the New Testament.

(Rev 2:19)  I know your works, and the love, and the ministry, and the faith, and your patience, and your works; and the last being more than the first.

In the above verse the Lord started by indicating the positive points of the assembly of Thyatira.  Keep in mind that the Lord always see us for what we are and how we are.

The first He mentioned is that the Lord knows her “works”, but also noticed how in this particular translation the last word is also the one that is at the beginning of this assembly positives points.  There is a big difference among the two, and that is that the first one is about their labor in the field of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  1. Toil
    1. (Verb) work extremely hard or incessantly.

“We toiled away”

  • (Synonyms) work hard, labor, exert oneself, slave (away), grind away, strive, work one’s fingers to the bone, put one’s nose to the grindstone.
  • (Noun) exhausting physical labor.

“a life of toil”

  • (Synonyms) hard work, labor, exertion, slaving, drudgery, effort, industry, ‘blood, sweat, and tears.

G2041  (ἔργον / ergon)

er’-gon

From ἔργω ergō (a primary but obsolete word; to work); toil (as an effort or occupation); by implication an act: – deed, doing, labour, work.

Total KJV occurrences: 176

And the second one is in regard to the “deeds” of the assembly, this is very noticeable when the Lord indicated that “…the last being more than the first…”.  All of these attributes are connected to the “fruits of the Spirit”;

Gal_5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith,

Eph_5:9  For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth,

  • Love
    1. G26 ἀγάπη / agapē

ag-ah’-pay

From G25; love, that is, affection or benevolence; specifically (plural) a love feast: – (feast of) charity ([-ably]), dear, love.

Total KJV occurrences: 116

  • Ministry
    1. G1248 διακονία / diakonia

dee-ak-on-ee’-ah

From G1249; attendance (as a servant, etc.); figuratively (eleemosynary) aid, (official) service (especially of the Christian teacher, or technically of the diaconate): – (ad-) minister (-ing, -tration, -try), office, relief, service (-ing).

Total KJV occurrences: 34

  • Faith
    1. G4102 πίστις / pistis

pis’-tis

From G3982; persuasion, that is, credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher), especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; abstractly constancy in such profession; by extension the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself: – assurance, belief, believe, faith, fidelity.

Total KJV occurrences: 244

  • Patience
    1. G5281 ὑπομονή / hupomonē

hoop-om-on-ay’

From G5278; cheerful (or hopeful) endurance, constancy: – enduring, patience, patient continuance (waiting).

Total KJV occurrences: 32

  • Works ( this particular used of this word at the end of the attributes of this assembly are more like “Deeds”).

In all these attributable gifts given by the Lord to this assembly, they were working in conjunction, none of them bigger than the other, until…

Thyatira Positive Elements (Click on this link to see the Graphic on the Positive Elements of Thyatira assembly)

(Rev 2:20 LITV)  But I have a few things against you, that you allow the woman Jezebel to teach, she saying herself to be a prophetess, and to cause My slaves to go astray, and to commit fornication, and to eat idol sacrifices.

Now here is the only point that this particular assembly neglected:

Enabling outside sources to infiltrate into the cell of the Body of Christ (please notice that I am indicating this as a “cell of the Body of Christ” and not the “Body of Christ”) and not stopping such actions.  As a result of enabling this outside intervention of this woman, a chaos was created and the gears of the Gospel were not turning properly if so.  Some of the consequences of this inadvertent event are:

    1. Belief or opinion contrary to orthodox religious (especially Christian) doctrine.

“Huss was burned for heresy”

  1. Synonyms: dissension, dissent, nonconformity, heterodoxy, unorthodoxy, apostasy, blasphemy, freethinking; agnosticism, atheism, nonbelief; idolatry, paganism

“an age in which scientists were often accused of heresy”

  1. Opinion profoundly at odds with what is generally accepted.
  • Implosion of the cell of the Body of Christ
  • Distrust
  • Ignorance purposely or inadvertently of the Word of God
    1. Unavailability of the Holy Spirit for the understanding the Word of God (Holy Bible)
  • Spiritual fornication which is one of the most difficult sins to be recognized by the human mind when is out of the influence of the Holy spirit
  • Co-participating with the idol sacrifices
  • Many more

Let’s have a review of who was “Jezebel”:

There is a total of 20 verses with 23 matches of her name in the Holy Bible, indicating to us how important is to understand the When, Why and How of Jezebel.

1st King16:31 talks about how this particular woman became part of the history of Israel (Northern Kingdom).  Ahab (Omri’s son (Omri was the king that the people of the Northern Kingdom considered to be the founder of such, even though there were kings before him)) after becoming the king of Israel married a “Sidonian Princess” with the name of “Jezebel” and by doing so, Ahab offers his loyalty and worshiping to their deity “Baal”.

The queen Jezebel wanting to keep her religious believe among the people of Israel, demanded to replace all in the high places of the kingdom the altars from the ones dedicated to “YHWH” and in place of them to put the ones belong to Ba’al and was dedicated to eradicating the worshiping to “YHWH” in the land of Israel by also killing the prophets of GOD, read 1st King 18:4, 1st King 18:13.  It is amazing to me, the kind of demonic spirit this woman was posses with that Elijah (the prophet of GOD) was not afraid of confronting the false prophets from Ba’al, nor the army but with a single treat from this woman Elijah escaped trembling and hiding in a cave, read 1st King 19:2.

During this time, there was a farmer with a small but beautiful vineyard, his name was Naboth and who was a man of God.  The Ahab desired Naboth vineyard but unable to acquire it, his wife Jezebel promised to him (Ahab) to get the vineyard as a present for him.  Utilizing many non-legal and non-truthful ways had the people of Israel stoning Naboth and as a result of the death of him the property passed to Ahab’s hands, read 1st King 21:5 – 1st King 21:15.

It was not until GOD Himself demanded from His prophet Elijah to hit the road and to understand that He had many more of His prophets to do the task if it was necessary, to talk to the king Ahab.  In conclusion, Jezebel was push out of the window of her palace and ate by the dogs, read 1st King 21:23, 2nd King 9:10 – 2nd King 9:37.

Background on the City of Zidon (Sidon) and their deity Ba’al:

The city flourished as part of a loose confederacy of city-states spread along the coast of the land of Canaan. Although they shared “a common linguistic, cultural, and religious inheritance, the region was very rarely politically united, with each city operating as a sovereign state ruled over by a king or local dynast” (Miles, 26). This brought Sidon into competition with the other states of Phoenicia for trade and, especially, with the city of Tyre. In the 10th century BCE, the balance of power shifted to Tyre primarily due to the leadership of that city’s kings, Abibaal and, after him, his son Hiram. Tyre forged trade agreements with the newly minted kingdom of Israel-Judah and her king David. This agreement made Tyre wealthy and Sidon, trying to compete, entered into their own pacts with the kingdom of Israel including the marriage of the Sidonian princess Jezebel, daughter of Ethbaal, to King Ahab of Israel (a story famous from the Bible). Jezebel’s insistence on maintaining her own religion and personal identity was an affront to a number of Ahab’s subjects and, most notably, the prophet Elijah who denounced her. Jezebel and Ahab’s rule was ended by a coup by the general Jehu and, with it, Sidonian trade agreements with Israel.

The Purple dye is what gave the Phoenicians their name from the Greeks, Phoinkes, and meaning `the purple people’ and although it would come to be commonly associated with the city of Tyre, its manufacture was originally at Sidon.

baal1
Ba’al was a Phoenician deity that among other powers attributed to him were being judge of the gods, the lord of the wind and weather, controller of the rain, storm, thunder and lighting.  It was also attributed to him the renewal of the vegetation every year.

There are a few things in common with this particular assembly and Jezebel:

  1. They were knowledgeable of the purple dye process /trade
  2. They were not unaware nor ignorant of the Word of GOD
  3. They were given the gift of repentance for them to take the step forward and recognize their sinning life
  4. Jezebel was brought to be part of the People of GOD / Thyatira were a cell of the Body of Christ
  5. The Chaldean priest who interpreted the esoteric doctrines of the Babylonians mysteries was called “Peter”, The Catholic church foundation of their principles is that their founder was the apostle “Peter” (by no means I am implying that the apostle Peter is not an apostle of the Lord Jesus, but in the other hand is one of the most important apostle for the Body of Christ).
  6. The insignia wore by the Babylonian priest above mentioned had two keys; one for the deity Janus and the other for Cybele. The Catholic Church have both symbols on the arms of the Papal garment symbolizing spiritual authority.
  7. The danger to Thyatira assembly came not by the persecution from the gentile world nor by the animosity of the Jewish attitudes, but instead came from within and so the same for the people of the kingdom of Israel when they brought such Jezebel to their lives.
  8. Jezebel acquired by “inquisition” Naboth’s vineyard and during the medieval the Catholic Church did so including the “Dark Ages” period.

(Rev 2:21 LITV)  And I gave time to her that she might repent of her fornication. And she did not repent.

(Rev 2:22 LITV)  Behold, I am throwing her into a bed, and into great affliction those committing adultery with her, unless they repent of their works.

The same way God offered to Jezebel the opportunity to repent, so He is doing with the members of the cell of the Body of Christ from the Assembly of Thyatira.

Joh 3:14-18 LITV

(14)  And even as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

(15)  that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

(16)  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

(17)  For God did not send His Son into the world that He might judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

(18)  The one believing into Him is not condemned; but the one not believing has already been condemned, for he has not believed into the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Notice how the Lord indicate, He will throw Jezebel “into a bed”, this particular expression is an expression of pain and immobilization, as if she will be a “disable/handicap” woman.  If you remember the Jezebel in the narrative from the Book of Kings was thrown from the castle window and the dogs ate her to the point of no recognition, but of course that was her physical body.  There is a second death and that is where the subject has no choice in the matter and no more opportunities are offer.

The Lord continue saying how He will put into “Great Affliction” those committing adultery with her.

Please notice how the Lord is using the verb “committing”, as an indicative of a continual and present action of the verb, indicative that those are the ones not repenting for their actions as Jezebel did.

The other important point to observe here is the point of the terms “”Great Affliction” = “Great Tribulation”:

  1. Great = G3173 μέγας – megas
    1. meg’-as
      1. Including the prolonged forms, femine μεγάλη megalē, plural μέγάλοι megaloi, etc.; compare also G3176, G3187], big (literally or figuratively, in a very wide application): – (+ fear) exceedingly, great (-est), high, large, loud, mighty, + (be) sore (afraid), strong, X to years.
      2. Total KJV occurrences: 195
    2. Affliction = G2347 θλίψις – thlipsis
      1. thlip’-sis
        1. From G2346; pressure (literally or figuratively): – afflicted, (-tion), anguish, burdened, persecution, tribulation, trouble.
        2. Total KJV occurrences: 45

This particular term is not used but only for the moment in where the biggest event in human history will take place other than the “Coming of the Lord” of course.  This cannot be confuse with a tribulation, nor with a difficulties, nor for that matter with problems, under no circumstances should be so, but understand this is what is called in the Bible “The Great Tribulation”.  Unless of course they will repent of their actions, then and only then they will not go thru such event.

Rev 2:23 LITV

(23)  And I will kill her children with death; and all the assemblies will know that I am the One searching the inner parts and hearts. And I will give to each of you according to your works.

The Lord make very clear that the punishment for her children will be death, such sin cannot have any root left, must be taken completely out of the heart of the Body of Christ.  Look the way the Lord indicate how “all the assemblies”, as a plural noun, expressing that this will apply not just to the Thyatira assembly, which is this letter send to but to the rest of the assemblies.

Many times over, this part of the verse is interpreted as if we are save by works, which based on the Bible we are save by Grace, but the Lord and the Word of God doesn’t contradict itself at all.  This is because the Lord is talking here as if the Grace is no longer in action on earth, but under the “Great Tribulation” process in where your actions will take you out to the throne of God after being decapitated and in Heaven, wash out by the “Blood of the Lamb”:

Rev 7:14 LITV

(14)  And I said to him, Sir, you know. And he said to me, These are those coming out of the great tribulation; and they washed their robes and whitened them in the blood of the Lamb.

This is because there is no one that will go to the Father but Thru Him (Jesus Christ our Lord):

Joh 14:6 LITV

(6)  Jesus said to him, I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Rev 2:24-25 LITV

(24)  But I say to you and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this teaching, and who did not know the deep things of Satan, as they say: I am not casting another burden on you;

(25)  but what you have, hold until I shall come.

Observe how the Lord is making clear that this is for everyone that is reading this letter and not only to the assembly of Thyatira, the Lord says “…But I say to you and to the rest of Thyatira…”.  Indication that it is directed to the reader of this letter whether he is from the assembly of Thyatira or not and including Thyatira members.

Also and in a clear form the Lord indicates that those that are not mixed or infected with the teachings or doctrine of Jezebel and those that did not know the deep things of Satan are going to pass thru such burden.  In contrast with the deep things of God, of which we are call to pursue them and ask for them in prayer to receive them through the Holy Spirit on knowledge, wisdom and understand of the Word of God.  Read below:

1Co 2:10-15 LITV

(10)  But God revealed them to us by His Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

(11)  For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of a man within him? So also no one has known the things of God except the Spirit of God.

(12)  But we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit from God, so that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God.

(13)  Which things we also speak, not in words taught in human wisdom, but in Words taught of the Holy Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.

(14)  But a natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

(15)  But the spiritual one discerns all things, but he is discerned by no one.

Rev 2:26-27 LITV

(26)  And the one overcoming, and the one keeping My works until the end, “I will give to him authority over the nations,”

(27)  and “He will shepherd them with an iron staff” (they are “broken to pieces like clay vessels”), as I also have received from My Father. Psa. 2:8, 9

On verses 26 and 27, is the promise to the overcoming, but in this particular case, the overcomer must also keep the works of God until the end, but if you remember at the beginning of the letter there are two ways in where this term is expressed:

  • Toil
    • This is in where the member of the Body of Christ must work in every level to start the fields of the Gospel of the Lord. In where, as in human terms we say, blood, sweat and tears are brought to the field hoping the labor will be enough and that the seed of the Gospel is in a good grounds for it to grow and sustained the storms.
  • Deeds
    • Our main job as a members of the Body of Christ is to live a life in Christ like behavior by feeding the hungry, protecting the homeless and the widow, promoting the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, Discipleship others and in prayer and supplication to ask the Lord for the Body of Christ and Israel protection waiting patiently for the Coming of the Lord.

The Lord says He will give to those that do as He ask, authority over the nations to the point of shepherd them with an iron staff.  That is an incredible authority, like no one ever will have, supervised by the Lord Jesus our Savior.  Look in the parenthesis of the verse on how the Lord says that these nations are broken to pieces like clay vessels and that reminds me the vision that the prophet Daniel had of the statue in different metals, where the feet were a mix of Clay and Iron (please referred to my earlier Bible Study in this web in regard to the Book of Daniel).

Also if you read Psalm 2, which is in where it is a reference of the above verse, please notice that there are three speakers in that Psalm (Please read Psalm 2).

Rev 2:28-29 LITV

(28)  And I will give to him the Morning Star.

(29)  The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.

But that is not all that the Lord is given away, there is more, much more.

He is giving “the Morning Star”, I tell you that we already have the Morning Star which is Jesus Christ our Lord.  Of course the Lord closes the Letter with the advice to everyone that either are listening or reading these letters (not just the Thyatira letter) not just to read them, but to hear them and put them into practice.

God Bless You !

The Assembly of Pergamos

The Assembly of Pergamos

Historical Background:

Pergamon /ˈpɜrɡəmən/ or /ˈpɜrɡəmɒn/ or Pergamum /ˈpɜrɡəməm/ (Ancient Greek: τὸ Πέργαμον, to Pergamon, or ἡ Πέργαμος, hē Pergamos) was an ancient Greek city in Aeolis, currently located 26 kilometres (16 mi) from the Aegean Sea on a promontory on the north side of the river Caicus (modern-day Bakırçay). Today, the main sites of ancient Pergamon are to the north and west of the modern city of Bergama in Turkey.

Some ancient authors regarded it as a colony of the Arcadians, but the various origin stories all belong to legend. The Greek historians reconstructed a complete history for it due to confusion with the distant Teuthrania.  It became the capital of the Kingdom of Pergamon during the Hellenistic period, under the Attalid dynasty, 281–133 BC.  Pergamon is cited in the Book of Revelation as one of the seven churches of Asia.

During 399 B.C. the city of Pergamos was recapture by the Syrian and it was of no importance on the antiquity until 301 B.C. when it became the capital of the new kingdom of Pergamon, founded in 281 B.C by Philetaerus and giving a beginning to the Attalid dynasty.

The Attalids became some of the most loyal supporters of Rome in the Hellenistic world. Under Attalus I (241–197 BC), they allied with Rome against Philip V of Macedon, during the first and second Macedonian Wars, and again under Eumenes II (197–158 BC), against Perseus of Macedon, during the Third Macedonian War. For their support against the Seleucids, the Attalids were rewarded with all the former Seleucid domains in Asia Minor.

The Attalids ruled with intelligence and generosity. Many documents survive showing how the Attalids supported the growth of towns by sending in skilled artisans and by remitting taxes. They allowed the Greek cities in their domains to maintain nominal independence. They sent gifts to Greek cultural sites like Delphi, Delos, and Athens. They defeated the invading Celts. They remodeled the Acropolis of Pergamon after the Acropolis in Athens. When Attalus III (138–133 BC) died without an heir in 133 BC, he bequeathed the whole of Pergamon to Rome in order to prevent a civil war.

Pergamon was briefly the capital of the Roman province of Asia, before the capital was transferred to Ephesus.

After a slow decline, the city was favored by several imperial initiatives under Hadrian (117 – 138). It was granted the title of metropolis and as a result of this an ambitious building program was carried out: massive temples, a stadium, a theatre, a huge forum and an amphitheater were constructed. In addition, at the city limits the shrine to Asclepius (the god of healing) was expanded into a lavish spa. This sanctuary grew in fame and was considered one of the most famous therapeutic and healing centers of the Roman world. Galen, after Hippocrates the most famous physician of antiquity, was born at Pergamon and received his early training at the Asclepeion.

Pergamon reached the height of its greatness under Roman Imperial rule and was home to about 200,000 inhabitants.  The Library of Pergamon was renowned, and second only to the Library of Alexandria, although not approaching Alexandria in scholarship.  The city was an early seat of Christianity and was granted a bishopric by the second century.  During the Third Century was badly damaged by an earthquake and ransacked by the “Goths” after.

FYI Important Background on Pergamos

It is also known as “the city of the serpent”, and for its greatness in the religious influence of that time in history.

This particular assembly is well known for the influence in medicine and what is known today as Phycology.

Mercury and Merchant approach vs Asclepius and the naked Graces
Mercury and a merchant disapproving Asclepius and the naked Graces (Meritrine, Hygeia and Panacea)

Mercury (Hermes) & merchant approach disapproving Asclepius (Physician) and the naked Graces (Meditrine, Hygeia and Panacea)

The first temple of this cult was erected in Pergamos in 27 B.C.  Aesculapius was identical to Phaethon (Nimrod = founder of the original Babylonian religion, eventually developing the worship of his widow Semiramis and his posthumous son (the Ashtoreth and Tammuz of Phoenicia, Isis and Horus of Egypt, Aphrodite and Eros of Greece, Venus and Cupid of Rome))

When Cyrus conquered Babylon, they found a new center at Pergamos and that king became “Pontifex Maximus”, highest priest of the pagan system.  When Rome took power over Pergamos the cult was assimilated and very well transferred to Rome by Pergamos.  One of the most clear influence on such cult in Rome is the fact that the Caesar was appointed “highest priest” and ultimately in 378 A.D. of Damasus, the Bishop of Rome with the complete and permanent absorption of “Babylonianism” into the Roman Church (this could possibly be seeing reflected with Thyatira).

During the year 312 A.D. Constantine set out to defeat the forces of Maxentius, empire rival.  His father prospered when he prayed to the God of the Christians, Constantine resorted to the same actions.  It is said the next morning he saw a shining cross in the sky with an inscription above it that read: “in hoc signo vinces” (In this sign thou shall conquer”, marked all the shields of his army with the mark, and after a bloody battle defeated Maxentius and immediately after declared his conversion to Christianity.  Constantine assumed headship of the church, repealed the persecution with the “edicts of Diocletian” advancing Christianity to high office in the state.  Pagan temples were converted to Christians churches; heathen festivals and customs were converted in to Christians ones; pagan priest slipped into office as Christians priests and so on.

Exposition of Revelation 2: 12-17

(Rev 2:12)  And to the angel of the assembly in Pergamos, write: These things says the One having the sharp, two-edged sword:

Once again in Revelation 2: 12 the Lord is dictating to the apostle the letter that the angel (messenger) is going to take to Pergamos.  There is only one angel that will be given the task and responsibility of this letter, not only because it is trusted by the Lord Almighty to accomplish such action, but more so because the angel’s personal relationship with the assembly.

Meaning of the name “Pergamos”;  it is a compound word:

  • Per” = pervert, perturbation, mixed, objectionable
  • gamos” = marriage

When the Lord described Himself as the “…the One having the sharp, two-edged sword…”, He is without a doubt that He is the Highest Authority in Command, Highest Priest and no one else is (Read Book of John 1: 1-4).

(Rev 2:13)  I know your works, and where you dwell, where the throne of Satan is. And you hold My name, and did not deny My Faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful witness; who was killed alongside you, where Satan dwells.

In this verse the Lord started to describe the attributes of this assembly:

  1. Know your works (this particular assembly is not lazy)
  2. Knows the place where the assembly dwell, where the throne of Satan is (the Lord is indicating here that even though the assembly is dwelling under the same location as where the throne of Satan is, they (the assembly) is not part of Satan.
    1. We, as the assembly of the Lord, are called to be among the ones that lives in this world but not been part of the world.
      1. Joh_14:17 the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him nor know Him. But you know Him, for He abides with you and shall be in you.

There is always a truth about this assembly related to the action of dwelling in the place where Satan’s throne is, and that is the fact that a throne is a chair located in the center of a room to make comfortable the person more respected and which is not use by any other member of the room but the person destine for.  Understanding this, we can come to the conclusion that this assembly, even though did the works and dwelled where it was commanded to, more so hold the Name of the Lord (the assembly was of the family belong to the Lord, so they claim:    (Eph 3:14)  For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,(Eph 3:15)  of whom every family in Heaven and on earth is named,).  It is evident that even when they hold and called themselves members of the family of the Lord, this assembly did not gave the Lord the recognition He deserved and in His place the throne was occupied by Satan.

It is also very interesting that is mentioned that this particular assembly never denied “His Faith” (it is spelled in capital letters, indicative of the Lord’s Faith and not the assembly’s faith, in accordance with the Strong words this particular term of faith is:

G4102

πίστις

pistis

In other words, they knew the Word, did the works, dwelled among the place we had been called to dwelled, hold the name of the Lord (members of the Family), and also never denied the Lord’s Faith or His Gospel. They, Pergamos, were so confused on their own well-being and totally out of their track in the real Gospel that they couldn’t distinguished between what was right and what was not.

This assembly allowed the satanic forces to influence them so strongly, to a point in were a faithful witness of the Gospel of the Lord was sacrifice to the idols and they didn’t raise their voices against such actions.  How a believer raise his/her voice? You may ask.  The answer is, by Prayers, Supplications, Fasting, and Studying the Word of Truth.

When any or all of those elements are placed in a subordination level to allow the public non believer to dictate and mandate our course of action, we as believers becomes co-participators of such actions.  The verse end by the Lord emphasizing such actions were taking place in “Satan’s dwelling place”.  This is very important because it tells us how they (Pergamos) allowed themselves to be influenced by the outside forces even when they had all the elements in their favor.

(Rev 2:14)  But I have a few things against you, that you have there those holding the teachings of Balaam, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling-block before the sons of Israel, to eat idol sacrifices, and to commit fornication.

(Rev 2:15)  So you also have those holding the teaching of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

On verses 14 through 15 the Lord is indicating to the assembly their negative points, let’s put them in a sequence manner:

  1. This assembly allowed …those holding the teachings of Balaam…
    1. To throw a stumbling block against the sons of Israel
      1. Read Numbers 22: 1-41
    2. To eat idol sacrifices
      1. Read Numbers 22: 40
    3. To commit fornication
      1. Read Numbers 22: 41
    4. Pergamos also allowed …those holding the teaching of the Nicolatians…
      1. What is the teachings of the Nicolatians that God Himself hate so much?
        1. Nicolaitans
        2. Nicola’itans (followers of Nicolas). A sect mentioned in Rev_2:6; Rev_2:15, whose deeds were strongly condemned. They may have been identical, with those who held the doctrine of Balaam. They seem to have held that, it was lawful to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication, in opposition to the decree of the Church rendered in Act_15:20; Act_15:29. The teachers of the Church branded them with a name, which expressed their true character. The men who did and taught such things were followers of Balaam. 2Pe_2:15; Jud_1:11. They, like the false prophet of Pethor, united brave words with evil deeds.
  • In a time of persecution, when the eating or not eating of things sacrificed to idols was, more than ever, a crucial test of faithfulness, they persuaded men, more than ever, that was a thing indifferent. Rev_2:13-14. This was bad enough, but there was a yet worse evil. Mingling themselves in the orgies of idolatrous feasts, they brought the impurities of those feasts into the meetings of the Christian Church.
  1. And all this was done, it must be remembered, not simply as an indulgence of appetite, but as a part of a system, supported by a “doctrine,” accompanied by the boast of a prophetic illumination, 2Pe_2:1. It confirms the view, which has been taken of their character to find that stress is laid, in the first instance on the “deeds” of the Nicolaitans. To hate those deeds is a sign of life in a Church, that otherwise is weak and faithless. Rev_2:6 To tolerate them is well-nigh to forfeit the glory of having been faithful under persecution. Rev_2:14-15.

(Rev 2:16)  Repent! But if not, I will come to you quickly, and I will make war with them by the sword of My mouth.

Here int verse 16 the Lord advised to the assembly of their only possible option to take, that is to “Repent”, otherwise (if the assembly does not repent) The Lord will come quickly.  The phrase “…come to you quickly…” means the following:

G5035

ταχύ

tachu

takh-oo’

Neuter singular of G5036 (as adverb); shortly, that is, without delay, soon, or (by surprise) suddenly, or (by implication of ease) readily: – lightly, quickly.

Total KJV occurrences: 12

Read please the following:

(2Pe 3:9)  The Lord of the promise is not slow, as some deem slowness, but is long-suffering toward us, not having purposed any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

(2Pe 3:10)  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with rushing sound, and having burned the elements will be dissolved, and earth and the works in it will be burned up.

(Rev 2:17)  The one who has an ear, hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To the one overcoming, I will give him to eat from the hidden manna. And I will give to him a white stone, and on the stone a new name having been written, which no one knows except the one receiving it.

In verse 17 there is a once again a personal implication and application of the assembly for everyone that is part of the assembly of the Lord. We are commanded to make our voices heard and our Prayers brought to the Throne of the Lord on behave of the Gospel of Truth.  We must work diligently to prepare ourselves to the battle, wearing the all armor of God as is described by the apostle Paul (read below):

Eph_6:11  Put on all the armor of God, for you to be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil,

Eph_6:13  Because of this, take up all of the armor of God that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having worked out all things, to stand.

It does follows the verse by indicating the promise to overcomer, which is in this assembly the following:

  1. Will eat of the hidden manna
  2. Will receive a white stone
    1. Encrypted with a new name
      1. Known only by the one receiving the stone

Thank you for reading and I hop/e in the Lord this will be of great help to your spiritual life.  God Bless You All.

Daniel and the End Times

Daniel 10 is just an introduction to the chapters 11 and 12.  These two chapters are so precise that many skeptics and other non-believers experts indicate that there is no other way for these chapters to be written other than after the events and many go even further, saying that there is no other way other than no just being written after the events but also that the writer was an actual eye witness.  We (The Believers and followers of the WAY, that is the Lord Jesus Christ) know that there is no such a thing but the total power and inspiration of the Holy Spirit in Daniel.

If we go with those skeptics thinking we will find out that there is a few details that will not allow such argument to be valid, for example:

If in fact these chapters were written after the fact (as the skeptics claim) they were written after the Septuagint translation (this translation was about 270 BC), but there is no argument that the Book of Daniel is part of the Old Testament and as a result of such, the Book of Daniel was included on the Books for the translators that had the task to bring the “Writings” from the Hebrew to the Greek language.  These were new generations of Hebrews born and raised on a non-native land that could not speak nor write or read their native language but Greek, enormous Hebrew population in this part of the World.  This action is not a singular manifestation of this time and location, this is also seen in our time, for example, here in the USA the Spanish speakers population had force the English speaking population to translate documents and laws to Spanish language, but the new generation of such Spanish speakers born and raised in the USA losses the ability of their parents language.

Many of these events on this chapter are in fact subsequent to the period of the Septuagint translation.

Drop of Knowledge:

(For you to have an idea of what is happening on the other side of the world not known at this point by the Europeans and this other half of the world is that the “Maya” civilization is taking shape in a land later known as Mexico, event verified by carbon tests in 1956 AD). The History of the World Mayan Empire (Double click for you to see the Image that will allow you to see the World Empires development on the beginning of the century including the world not known at the time, the “New World” later known as the American Continent).

In an interesting way we must understand that in this particular chapter 11 of the Book of Daniel there is a historical narrative of events (for convenience let’s say from verse 1 throughout verses 20), and of course a mix of historical with a connotations of a futuristic events to the end times in the middle and end part of the chapter (let’s say verse 21 through maybe verse 35 and from there on the end of the chapter are verses related to the end times).

(Dan 11:1)  And I, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I was standing for a supporter and for a fortress for him.

This verse is the end of chapter 10, which is the end in where the Angel is speaking to Daniel in regard to the Angel’s support to the King Darius from the Medes. As we saw in the previous chapters.

(Dan 11:2)  And now I will declare the truth to you: Behold! Three kings shall stand up in Persia; and the fourth shall be rich in all greater riches. And when he is strong through his riches, he shall stir up all against the kingdom of Greece.

(Ezr 4:6)  And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against the people of Judah and Jerusalem.

(Est 1:1)  And it happened, in the days of Ahasuerus (he is Ahasuerus who reigned from India even to Ethiopia, over a hundred and twenty seven provinces)

(Est 1:2)  in those days when King Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom in Shushan the palace,

Ahasuerus also known as Xerxes I is the king here in verse 2 Chapter 11 in the Book Daniel the kings that preceded him were

1.      Cambyses

2.      Bardiya

3.      Darius I

Xerxes I lead a 2 million men Army, which were on a training for a period of four years for this battle, against the Greeks forces, and even though he (Xerxes I) was defeated on the battle, still causing to the Greeks a great deal of moral, financial and political devastation.

(Dan 11:3)  And a mighty king shall stand up and shall rule with great authority and do according to his will.

This is of course Alexander The Great.

(Dan 11:4)  And when he stands up his kingdom shall be shattered and shall be divided to the four winds of the heavens, and not to his posterity, nor according to his authority with which he ruled. For his kingdom shall be pulled up and given to others besides these.

During these verses we could say it is in regard to Alexander the Great, and incredible leader that conquered the entire known world known at that time.  It is very important to mention that the Battle in where Xerxes I and the Greeks were involved in, as we mentioned before was a major trigger of bitterness for Alexander to battled the Persians.  Alexander the Great die in a mysterious manner as a young man in his early thirties (maybe thirty two years old or a little bit later) as a result of what was believe an infectious disease.

After his death, his kingdom was divided among his four generals, not because Alexander did not had any descendent, but because the descendent of Alexander were kill before they were able to take over power.

Alexander The Great Territory divided among his Generals  (Double Click on this link to be able to see the image in a PDF File)

These are the four winds of heavens:

Ø      Ptolemy = South (Egypt)

Ø      Seleucus = North (Syria/Palestine)

Ø      Antigonus

Ø      Perdiccas

For the purpose of our Bible Study we will concentrate on Ptolemy and Seleucus Alexander The Great Territory divided among his Generals  (Double click in this link to be able to see the image in a PDF File).

There is a continue struggle for power between Ptolemy and Seleucus and as a result of their geographical location, Israel is place in between both, suffering the consequences of their struggle for power.

(Dan 11:5)  And the king of the south shall be strong. And one of his rulers, even he will be strong on him, and he will rule. His rule shall be a great rule.

(Dan 11:6)  And at the end of the years they shall join together, and the king of the south’s daughter shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement. But she shall not keep the power of the arm. And he will not stand, nor his arm. But she and those who brought her shall be given up, also her begetter and her supporter in these times.

(Dan 11:7)  But the shoots of her roots will stand in his place, and he shall come to the army and will enter into the fortress of the king of the north. And he will act against them and will show strength.

(Dan 11:8)  And he will also bring their gods with their casted images, with silver and gold vessels of their possessions, into exile to Egypt. And for years he will stand away from the king of the north.

(Dan 11:9)  And the king of the south will come into his kingdom and will return to his own land.

(Dan 11:10)  But his sons shall be stirred up and shall gather a multitude of great forces. And one certainly shall come and overflow and pass through. And he will return to his fortress and be stirred up.

(Dan 11:11)  And the king of the south will be bitter and will go out and fight with him, with the king of the north. And he shall raise a great multitude, but the multitude shall be given into his hand.

(Dan 11:12)  And having carried away the host, his heart will be lifted up. And he will cause myriads to fall, but he shall not be strong.

(Dan 11:13)  For the king of the north shall return and raise a greater host than the former. And at the end of times, years, coming he shall come with a great army and with much equipment.

(Dan 11:14)  And in those times many shall stand up against the king of the south. And the sons of the violent ones of your people shall rise up to establish the vision, but they shall stumble.

(Dan 11:15)  And the king of the north shall come and pour out a siege mound and seize a fortified city. And the arms of the south shall not stand, nor his choice people, for there will be no firmness to stand.

(Dan 11:16)  But he who comes against him will do as he desires, and none shall stand before him. And he shall stand in the glorious land, and destruction shall be in his hand.

(Dan 11:17)  And he shall set his face to go in with the might of all his kingdom, and upright ones with him; so he shall do. And he shall give the daughter of women to him, to destroy it. But she shall not stand, nor be for him.

(Dan 11:18)  And he shall turn his face to the coastlands and shall capture many. But a ruler shall make cease his reproach for him, but his reproach shall return to him.

(Dan 11:19)  And he shall turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land, but he will stumble and fall and shall not be found.

(Dan 11:20)  And one who passes over a tax exacter shall stand in his place, for the glory of the kingdom. But within a few days he will be shattered, but not in anger and not in battle.

The woman here in verse 6 is Berenice.  Antiochus made peace with Ptolemy II, ending the Second Syrian War. Antiochus repudiated his wife Laodicea I and exiled her to the city of Ephesus.  To seal the treaty, he married Ptolemy’s daughter Berenice and received an enormous dowry.  Later in history there is another player call Antiochus III also known as the “Antiochus the Great” and as a perspective there is Antiochus IV, and I mentioned this particular because it is Antiochus the IV the one that will have to do with our Bible reading and not the one that the history mentioned as “Antiochus the Great”.

This is a period of around 125 to 130 years of war between powers.

From verse 5 all away throughout verse 20 in the chapter 11 of the Book of Daniel it is expressed the struggle for power among these two kingdoms of the King of the North and the South.

In verse 17 we see also another woman mentioned, and this woman is Ptolemy XII’s daughter “Cleopatra”.  Cleopatra originally ruled jointly with her father, Ptolemy XII, and later with her brothers, Ptolemy XIII and Ptolemy XIV, whom she married as per Egyptian custom, but eventually she became sole ruler.  As pharaoh, she consummated a liaison with Julius Caesar that solidified her grip on the throne.  She later elevated her son with Caesar, Caesarion, to co-ruler in name.

Here is where Antiochus IV take action and seized the throne by force and there is again a power struggle.

During this time a great power is emerging and will be known  as the Roman Empire.  This Roman Empire is building a great navy and is becoming an incredible part of this struggle for power.

(Dan 11:21)  And a despised one shall stand up on his place, and they shall not give to him the honor of the king. But he shall come in while at ease and make strong the kingdom by intrigues.

(Dan 11:22)  And the forces of the overflow shall be swept from before his face, and they will be shattered, and also the ruler of a covenant.

There is believed by Scholars that the person that is referred here in verse 21 throughout 23 is a High Priest from Jerusalem named Onias III.  This priest was killed around 170 to 171 BC.

(Dan 11:23)  And after they join themselves to him, he will practice deceit; for he shall come and shall be strong with a few people.

(Dan 11:24)  He will go in safely, even into the rich places of the province. And he shall do what his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers. He shall plunder and spoil and scatter goods among them. And he shall devise his plots against the strongholds, even for a time.

(Dan 11:25)  And he will stir up his power and his heart against the king of the south with a great army. And the king of the south will be stirred up to battle with a great and very mighty army. But he shall not stand, for they will devise plots against him.

(Dan 11:26)  Yea, those who eat his food shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow. And many will fall down slain.

(Dan 11:27)  And both of them, the kings, shall have in their hearts to do evil, and they will speak lies at one table. But it will not prosper, for the end still shall be at the appointed time.

(Dan 11:28)  And he will return to his land with great wealth. And his heart shall be against the holy covenant. And he will act, and he shall return to his land.

(Dan 11:29)  At the appointed time he will return and come against the south. But it will not be as the former or as the latter.

(Dan 11:30)  For the Kittim ships will come against him. And he will be pained and turn back and be furious against the holy covenant. And he will act, and he will return and heed the forsakers of the holy covenant.

(Dan 11:31)  And forces will stand away from him, and they will profane the sanctuary, the fortress. And they shall remove the regular sacrifice, and they will place the abomination that desolates.

If you like to see more details about these event please read 1 Maccabees chapter 1 and 2 (the Maccabees are books included in the Apocrypha books and in which is treated of Jewish history under the Maccabean princes).

During this struggle of power, the ones that bring equilibrium to the battle is the Roman’s fleet, which coincidentally is a power that is commencing to emerge in the area and is the kingdom with the most powerful naval fleet at the time.  The naval fleet is located in what is known today as Cyprus, the name that is given here in this chapter is “Kittim”, located at the Mediterranean Sea (known then as Great or Upper Sea).  Antiochus III is humiliated by the Roman fleet commander, in where the Commander of the Fleet draw a circle on the sand and ask to Antiochus III to decided what he was going to do before he (the fleet commander) will step out of the circle, and as a result of this humiliation, Antiochus III bring all his fury against Jerusalem including the practice of idolatry and location of his idols in the Holy of Holies, desecrating the Temple.

After the Maccabean revolt the power is brought back to the Jewish people and the Temple is re-dedicated on the third anniversary of the revolt, and what is known today as “Hanukkah”.  Please read below:

(Joh 10:22)  And the Feast of Dedication took place in Jerusalem, and it was winter.

(Dan 11:32)  And he will defile by flatteries those who do evil against the covenant. But the people who know their God will be strong and will work.

Here is prophesied the victory of the People of God on the Maccabees revolt.

(Dan 11:33)  And those who understand among the people will instruct many, yet they will stumble by the sword and by flame, by exile and spoil for days.

(Dan 11:34)  And when they shall stumble, they will be helped with a little help. But many will join them with hypocrisy.

(Dan 11:35)  And many of those who understand shall stumble, to refine and to purge them, and to make white to the time of the end. For it is yet for the appointed time.

From here on, that is from verses 36 through 45 the way in where the chapter is related to the reader is in a way that does not fit history yet, and appear to be for the end times.  Up to verse 35 the scholars agreed that it is so précised to history events that the only way this was written was by after the facts and as an eyewitness of the events, but we know that was not the case, I must say.  This was inspired by the Holy Spirit to Daniel the Man of God.

Once again, from verse 36 and through out verse 45 the way the vocabulary is constructed and used it is as if it was for the end times and in no way for the moment in where history had been written.

(Dan 11:36)  And the king shall do according to his will. And he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god; he shall even speak marvelous things against the God of gods and shall prosper until the fury is completed. For that which is decreed shall be done.

(Dan 11:37)  He shall not regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women; yea, he will not come to any god. For he shall magnify himself above all.

In these verse there is clear view that the one who is described in these verse is the one of the end times, as we will see in the below references:

(Rev 13:6)  And it opened its mouth in blasphemy toward God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, and those tabernacling in Heaven.

(2Th 2:2)  for you not to be quickly shaken in the mind, nor to be disturbed, neither through a spirit, nor through speech, nor through letter, as through us, as if the Day of Christ has come.

(2Th 2:3)  Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, because that Day will not come unless first comes the falling away, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,

(2Th 2:4)  the one opposing and exalting himself over everything being called God, or object of worship, so as for him “to sit in the temple of God” as God, setting forth himself, that he is God. Dan. 11:36; Eze. 28:2

(Eze 28:2)  Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, So says the Lord Jehovah, Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, in the heart of the seas; yet you are a man, and not God, though you give your heart as the heart of gods.

There are few things we must bring to a clear view on this particular passage, and you as a reader must understand that when you read this passage you must read it and see it from a Jewish point of view only.

Lets start with some of those points… he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god…  This is very interesting because here the word “god” is used in lower case, that is that the figure here indicated will not allowed any idol to take his place, does that sound familiar to you?  Remember that the anti-Christ (means the impostor) will try to replace and duplicate God in every way and as a result of it he (the impostor) will not share his limited glory.   … he shall even speak marvelous things against the God of gods…  In this part of the verse 36 the word “God” is in Capital letter, which means that is referring to the “Only Living God”, and as we read before in the Book of Revelation Chapter 13 verse 6 that will be a power given to him (the impostor) by God, but not because the impostor have such authority on his own, I must make that clear.  … and shall prosper until the fury is completed…  This means that there will be limited time to the impostor’s power.

In verse 37 in Chapter 11 of the Book of Daniel, there is a very important point that I like to speak about and that is the following, … He shall not regard the God of his fathers…  It does say that he (the impostor) shall not regard the God (Capital Letter as for the “Only Living God”) of his fathers.  That phrase makes me think that the impostor is either from a Jewish branch or a descendent of such people.  With this statement I will not like to alarm or make uncomfortable anyone, but I am only expressing what I feel is the interpretation of this passage from my point of view.  Remember that the only people in the history of human kind that expressed in such ways were and are the Jewish people.

There is also another part of this verse 37 that intrigues me, and of course please remember that you must read and see this chapter from a Jewish point of view only and not as a gentile, and that is the following … nor the desire of women… this is a statement that expressed one of the requirements for the Messianic man, this is an echo of Genesis 3:15…

(Gen 3:15)  And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He will bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.

(Dan 11:38)  But in his place he shall honor the god of forces, and he shall honor a god whom his fathers did not know, with gold and silver and with precious stones, and desirable things.

(Dan 11:39)  And he shall act in the strongholds of the fortresses with a foreign god, whom he shall acknowledge. He shall multiply in glory, and he shall cause them to rule over many and shall divide the land for a price.

Once again here we see this particular phrases that are only from the Jewish point of view and not from a gentile world, and manifesting one of the most punishable sins under the Jewish Law, which is idolatry.

(Dan 11:40)  And at the end time, the king of the south will engage in butting with him. And the king of the north shall come against him like a tempest, with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships. And he shall go into the lands and shall overflow and pass over.

(Dan 11:41)  And he shall enter into the glorious land, and many will be stumbled. But these shall escape out of his hand: Edom and Moab, and the chief of the sons of Ammon.

(Dan 11:42)  And his hand will stretch out against the lands, and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

(Dan 11:43)  But he will rule over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all Egypt’s desirable things. And the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

(Dan 11:44)  But news shall trouble him from the east and from the north. And he will go out with great fury to destroy and to devote many to destruction.

(Dan 11:45)  And he shall plant his palace tents between the seas, in the glorious holy mountain. Yet he shall come to his end, and there is not a helper for him.

From the verse 40 and throughout 45 there is a more view of the end times in the passage but with a more unclear vision of what the meaning is for this passage.  We might try to understand it but it is a little bit complicated.  For instance, many people bring this chapter of Daniel with a conjunction of Ezekiel 38; this particular chapter expressed the king of Gog from the land of Magog.  It is for you to study such chapter and to come up with your own conclusion about if this chapter is talking about this scenario in chapter 11 in Daniel, my personal and humble opinion is that is not the same scenario.

In this lasts verses, the scripture make references to three landmarks, these are; Edom, Moab and the chief of the sons of Ammon and these portions of lands today are known as the Jordan.  If you notice in the image provided as a reference for your understanding of this Bible Study, the region mentioned here was on the time of Joshua the regions of the tribes of Manasseh, Gad and Reuben accordance with the Book of Joshua. In October 1994 there was a peace treated signed by Israel and Jordan.  In Deuteronomy chapter 4 there is reference to the land of the Jordan as a refuge land to the manslayer:

The Jordan River in Biblical Times  (Double  click in this link to be able to see the image in a PDF Format)

(Deu 4:42)  that the manslayer might flee there, he who killed his neighbor unawares, and did not hate him in times before, and that he fleeing to one of these cities might live:

(Deu 4:43)  Bezer in the wilderness, in the tableland, for the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan for the Manassites.

Is this part of the end times?

We must agree that verses 36 throughout 45 are verses related to the time of the Great Tribulation and the Armageddon Battle.  Since 400 AD this particular chapter of the book of Daniel it has being viewed as a passage of the anti-Christ.  It is a possibility that between verse 35 (verse in where the historical and narratives events ends in this chapter) and the verse 36 (verse 36 is a post church event) had being few years.

The important thing to understand for us, “the believers in the Lord Jesus Christ”, is that before the anti-Christ to be reveal, the Church (Body of Christ) will be taking away by the Lord Himself and as a consequence of such action the Holy Spirit of God will also be removed from this Earth, leaving completely clear the road for the reveal of the anti-Christ.  You must remember that neither God nor the Holy Spirit of God can be where the sin is present and active, because God is “The Living God” and the Scripture says the following about sin;

Rom_7:8  But sin taking occasion through the commandment worked every lust in me; for apart from Law, sin is dead.

Rom_8:2  For the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus set me free from the law of sin and of death.

We Must be ready for the encounter with Him…

Daniel Chapter 10 – The Spiritual World

Since the moment we gave our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ to the present moment one of the things we had constantly heard from the Word of God and our elders in the Lord is about how, we as believers, have a spiritual battle.  The Apostle Paul referred to this very vividly in his epistles.  In this chapter 10 of the Book of Daniel will be demonstrated without any doubt how our battle is with the evil forces.

It is very important for us to make very clear certain terms in order for us to understand the chapter that follows.  These terms are put very clear, I hope, in the next few paragraphs:

  • Ruler

Ruler

RU’LER, n.

1. One that governs, whether emperor, king, pope or governor; any one that exercises supreme power over others.

2. One that makes or executes laws in a limited or free government. Thus legislators and magistrates are called rulers.

3. A rule; an instrument of wood or metal with straight edges or sides, by which lines are drawn on paper, parchment or other substance. When a ruler has the lines of chords, tangents, sines, &c. it is called a plane scale.

Eph 2:2-3 LITV

(2)  in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit now working in the sons of disobedience,

(3)   among whom we also all conducted ourselves in times past in the lusts of our flesh, doing the things willed of the flesh and of the understanding, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as the rest.

Rev 1:5 LITV

(4)   even from Jesus Christ the Faithful Witness, the First-born out of the dead, and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him loving us and washing us from our sins by His blood,

Eph 6:11-12 LITV

(11)  Put on all the armor of God, for you to be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil,

(12)  because wrestling against flesh and blood is not to us, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world’s rulers, of the darkness of this age, against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenlies.

  • AN’GEL, n. Usually pronounced angel, but most anomalously. [L. angelus; Gr. a messenger, to tell or announce.]

1. Literally, a messenger; one employed to communicate news or information from one person to another at a distance. But appropriately,

2. A spirit, or a spiritual intelligent being employed by God to communicate his will to man. Hence angels are ministers of God, and ministring spirits. Heb 1.

  • MOURNING, ppr. Grieving; lamenting; sorrowing; wearing the appearance of sorrow.

MOURNING, n. The act of sorrowing or expressing grief; lamentation; sorrow.

i.      The month of Nisan

ii.      1-2, Feast of Rejoicing: New Year (1 Sam 20:18,19,34).

iii.      10, Presentation of lamb

iv.      14, Passover

  • whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz; or of Fez, which is the best gold. Some take it to be the same with the gold of Ophir, often spoken of in Scripture; so the Targum on Jer_10:9, renders Uphaz by Ophir. Ptolemy (i) makes mention of a river called Phasis in the island of Taprobane or Zeilan, where Bochart (k) seems to think Ophir was, from whence the gold of that name came; and the same geographer (l) takes notice of a city and river of the same name in Colchis; perhaps the same with Pison, which encompassed Havilah, where was good gold, Gen_2:11, and both Strabo (m) and Pliny (n) say that much gold was found in that country, and taken out of rivers there; and was so plentiful, that even chambers were made of gold, Some think that this was an island in India called Paz or Topaz, and might with the Jews go by all three names, Paz, Topaz, and Uphaz

  • ANOINT’, v.t. [L. ungo.]
  1. To pour oil upon; to smear or rub over with oil or unctuous substances; also to spread over, as oil. We say, the man anoints another, or the oil anoints him.
  2. To consecrate by unction, or the use of oil.
  • Thou shalt anoint the altar, and sanctify it. Exo 29.
  1. To smear or daub.
  • He anointed the eyes of the blind man with clay. John 9.
  1. To prepare, in allusion to the consecrating use of oil.
  • Anoint the shield. Isa 21.
  • To anoint the head with oil, Psa 23 seems to signify to communicate the consolations of the Holy Spirit.
  • The use of oil in consecrations was of high antiquity. Kings, prophets and priests were set apart or consecrated to their offices by the use of oil. Hence the peculiar application of the term anointed to Jesus Christ.
  • Beryl

BER’YL,n. [L.beryllus; Eng.brilliant.]

A mineral, considered by Cleaveland as a subspecies of Emerald. Its prevailing color is green of various shades, but always pale. Its crystals are usually longer and larger than those of the precious emerald, and its structure more distinctly foliated. It is harder than the apatite, with which it has been confounded; harder and less heavy than the pycnite. The best beryls are found in Brazil, in Siberia and Ceylon, and in Dauria, on the frontiers of China. They are found in many parts of the United States.

Dan 10:1-3 LITV

(1)  In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a thing was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar. And the thing was true, and a great conflict. And he understood the thing and had understanding of the vision.

(2)  In those days, I, Daniel, was mourning three weeks of days.

(3)  I ate no food for delight, and no flesh or wine came into my mouth. I did not anoint myself at all until three weeks of days were fulfilled.

This is the first chapter of the trilogy of chapters.  Daniel’s Timeline Based on Chapters on PDF  (Click in this link until you see the PDF File Format )

Daniel, known as Belteshazzar (name given to Daniel from the very beginning of his adduction from Judah by the Babylonians, in an effort to accelerated his assimilation to the Babylonian culture, see Dan 1:7 LITV; (7)  to whom the chief of the eunuchs gave names. For he called Daniel, Belteshazzar; and Hananiah, Shadrach; and Mishael, Meshach; and Azariah, Abednego.) is now an older man, possibly in his 80’s, and due to his age also out of his court duties.  Nevertheless Daniel was not out of the duties as a minister of God.

During his moment of the vision, Daniel was mourning for a period of “three weeks of days”.  It is very important for us to know the difference in the use of the word “weeks” in this chapter versus the word “weeks” in the previous one.  In this chapter the word is used as a term of human chronological time base on the Jewish calendar, but in the previous chapter was use by the Angel of God as a chronological time base on the time of God or better said from the Divine point of view (this is not to say that God is subject to time, because God created time and He is not subjected to such).  Daniel was mourning for 21 days, during which he submitted himself to fastening.  He waited until the very end of the 21st day to be anointed, showing with such actions how important for Daniel was the pursue of righteousness to present himself to God.

Dan 10:4 LITV

(4)  And in the twenty fourth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Tigris,

In verse 4 there are very unique points of interest. Now is the 24th day of the 1st month (April in accordance with our Julian calendar)

  1. A total of days in mourning are 21, equal to 3 times 7.
  2. There are 3 more days added to the account, possibly representing the Divine presence after a man is consecrated fully to God.
  3. The presence of water, meaning the most pure, honest and clear form of creation to stand in front of God.

Dan 10:5-6 LITV

(5)  then I lifted up my eyes and looked: And behold! A certain man was clothed in linen, whose loins were wrapped in fine gold from Uphaz.

(6)  His body was also like the beryl, and his face looked like lightning. And his eyes were like torches of fire; and his arms and his feet in color like polished bronze; and the sound of his words were as the noise of a multitude.

Notice how Daniel is describing these events but, he himself still in a conscious manner, and not in a dream or on a subconscious form.

Apparently Daniel looked up and sees a man, but this particular man was dressed in also a very particular way, and as Daniel describes it appears to be dressed with very unique apparel.  Also noticed the number Seven present in the description of the man seeing by Daniel, the number Seven in the Bible is meaningful to describe completion.

  1. LIN’EN, n. [L. linun, flax, Gr. The sense is probably long, extended or smooth. In the latter sense, it would accord with L. linio, lenio.]

Cloth made of flax or hemp.

An under garment.

LIN’EN, a. [L. lineus.]

Made of flax or hemp; as linen cloth; a linen stocking.

Resembling linen cloth; white; pale.

Fossil-linen, a kind of amianth, with soft, parallel, flexible fibers.

  • Loins wrap in fine Gold from Uphaz
  • His Body was like the Beryl
  • His Face looked like lighting
  • His eyes were like torches of fire
  • His arms and his feet in color like polished bronze
  • The sound of his words were as the noise of a multitude

Dan 10:7-11 LITV

(7)  And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision. For the men who were with me did not see the vision. But a great trembling fell on them so that they fled to hide themselves.

(8)  Then I was left alone, and I saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me. For my glory was turned within me into corruption, and I kept no strength.

(9)  Yet I heard the sound of his words. And when I heard the sound of his words, then I was on my face, stunned, and my face was toward the ground.

(10)  And, behold, a hand touched me and set me shaking on my knees and the palms of my hands.

(11)  And he said to me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you and stand up. For I am now sent to you. And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood, trembling.

It is quite interesting that Daniel specifically expressed the presence of more individuals in his surroundings at the moment of the vision.  There is also another important physical point of interest from Daniel’s description in verse 7, that is that due to a great trembling that fell in them, they (the other expectators around Daniel) fled to hide, leaving Daniel alone.

Many of us that had read the Bible, most remember that in Genesis God call Adam and he hide from God due to his nakedness and sinfulness.  Also many hundred years later a persecutor of the Church call Saul of Tarsus was confronted in the middle of the way to his duties by God and as Daniel described his experience so similar was the one of Saul of Tarsus later called as Apostle Paul.  See below;

Gen 3:9-10 LITV

(9)  And Jehovah God called to the man and said to him, Where are you?

(10)  And he said, I have heard Your sound in the garden, and I was afraid, for I am naked, and I hid myself.

Act 9:3-7 LITV

(3)  But in the going it happened! He drew near to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the heaven shone around him.

(4)  And falling on the earth he heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul! Why do you persecute Me?

(5)  And he said, Sir, who are You? And the Lord said, I am Jesus, whom you persecute; it is hard for you to kick against the goads.

(6)  Both trembling and being astonished he said, Lord, what do You desire me to do? And the Lord said to him, Rise up and go into the city, and it will be told you what you must do.

(7)  But the men traveling with him had been standing speechless, indeed hearing the voice, but seeing no one.

Dan 10:12 LITV

(12)  And he said to me, Do not fear, Daniel. For from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard. And I have come because of your words.

Daniel continued describing the vision, and hearing the voice as if it was “the sound of his words were as the noise of a multitude” the man said to Daniel “Do not Fear”.  It is important for the men and women of God to know that the presence of God is not to bring fear in the lives of those that are in Jesus Christ our Lord, but in the other hand should bring comfort, rest, peace, patience, understanding wisdom, and most of all salvation.

Looked how the man indicates to Daniel, that from the very moment Daniel “set his heart” and humble himself before God, the man was sent to Daniel.  Many of us humble ourselves to the Lord, many of us set our hearts ready to listen to the Lord, but some of us “Set our hearts and Humble ourselves” in front of God at once.  We must be not just ready to received but strong enough to understand our condition as sinners in front of the Only Living God and ask to the Lord and Savior for forgiveness, to open our heart making us ready for his Word.  Please read the below reference and understand it, hoping with such that you will be capable to claim such power and start to proclaim the Gospel of the Lord Jesus our Savior.

(7)  of which I was made a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me, according to the working of His power.

(8)  This grace was given to me, I being less than the least of all the saints, to preach the gospel of the unsearchable riches of Christ among the nations,

(9)  and to bring to light all, what is the fellowship of the mystery having been hidden from eternity in God, the One creating all things through Jesus Christ,

(10)  so that now to the rulers and to the authorities in the heavenlies might be made known through the assembly the manifold wisdom of God,

(11)  according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,

(12)  in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through His faith.

(13)  Therefore, I ask you not to faint at my troubles on your behalf, which is your glory.

(14)  For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

(15)  of whom every family in Heaven and on earth is named,

(16)  that He may give you, according to the riches of His glory, by His power to become mighty in the inward man through His Spirit,

(17)  that through faith Christ may dwell in your hearts, having been rooted and founded in love,

(18)  that you may be given strength to grasp, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and depth and height,

(19)  and to know the surpassing knowledge and love of Christ, that you may be filled to all the fullness of God.

(20)  Now to Him being able to do exceedingly above all that we ask or think, according to the power working in us,

(21)  to Him be the glory in the assembly in Christ Jesus, to all the generations of the age of the ages. Amen.

(13)  But the king of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty one days. But, lo, Michael, one of the first rulers, came to help me. And I stayed there with the kings of Persia.

Many of you may think that this is about how the angel of God is battling with evil forces and that is all, but it is not such.  There are many Biblical references in where we can see how the evil forces are always trying to destroy and corrupt the men of God, Israel and the followers of the Lord.  Let’s see some examples for our own good.

(14)  Then stand firm, “having girded your loins about with truth” and having put “on the breastplate of righteousness,” Isa. 11:5; 59:17

(15)  and having shod the feet with the preparation of the “gospel of peace.” Isa. 52:7

(16)  Above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the darts of the evil one being kindled.

(17)  Also, take “the helmet of salvation,” and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God; Isa. 59:17 LXX-Isa. 11:4; MT-Isa. 49:2; LXX and MT-Hos. 6:5

(18)  through all prayer and petition, praying at all times in the Spirit, and watching to this same thing with all perseverance and petition concerning all the saints.

Dan 10:14 LITV

(14)  Now I have come to make you understand what shall happen to your people in the latter days. For the vision is yet for many days.

In verse 14, the use of the word “Days” is now in the Divine term and not in the human chronological timeline way.  Noticed also how the man make clear to Daniel that the understanding of this vision was going to be given to Daniel thru “ the Divine” intervention and not on Daniel’s own human knowledge.  This is also important for us, as men and women of God to know that God will never do anything unless He (God) will reveal such actions thru His servants and prophets.  Read the following verse:

Amo 3:7 LITV

(7)  For the Lord Jehovah will do nothing unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.

Also in verse 14 on Daniel Chapter 10, mentioned very clear that the events in the vision will be happening to “Daniel’s people in the latter days”, very clear it is stated will be for the Jewish people such event.

Dan 10:15-18 LITV

(15)  And when he had spoken such words to me, I set my face to the ground, and I became speechless.

(16)  And, behold, one in form as the sons of men touched my lips. And I opened my mouth and spoke and said to him who stood before me, O lord, my pangs have come over me because of the vision, and I have no strength left.

(17)  For how can the servant of this my lord speak with this my lord? For as for me, there is no power left in me; yea, there is no breath left in me.

(18)  And he added, and touched me, one in form as a man, and made me strong.

On verses 15 through 18 Daniel is compelled to admit his human debilities and more so his spiritual weaknesses, declaring the reflection of his suffering of his spirit and transform through time and space to his own human body.  His pain is so overwhelming that Daniel expressed to the angel of God and described it as a “pangs”, this is described by the Webster Dictionary as:

  • Pang

PANG, n. Extreme pain; anguish; agony of body; particularly, a sudden paroxysm of extreme pain, as in spasm, or childbirth. Isa 21.

I saw the hoary traitor,

Grin in the pangs of death, and bit the ground.

PANG, v.t. To torture; to give extreme pain to.

During this process of pain and anguish the man of God touched Daniel’s lips and gave strength to Daniel, this is also indicative of strength in the spirit of the human with the anointing of the Spirit of God, read the following please:

Isa 6:6-7 LITV

(6)  Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, snatched with tongs from the altar.

(7)  And he touched it on my mouth, and said, See, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin is covered.

Dan 10:19 LITV

(19)  And he said, O man greatly beloved, do not fear. Peace to you. Be strong. Yea, be strong! And when he had spoken to me I was made strong. And I said, Speak, my lord, for you have made me strong.

In verse 19 it is noticeable how and to what degree God cares for us, His servants.  There is a tender way in where the Lord identified Daniel, the man of God called Daniel as “greatly beloved”, indicative of the degree that Daniel was considered through the eyes of God.  Not just beloved, which for me would it be plenty to be called by the man of God as such, but more so a higher degree to almost no equal.  Daniel also expressed how the Word of God made him strong, as it is very clear for each one of us, how the Word of God make us stronger and better followers of the Lord.

Php 4:13 LITV

(13)  I have strength for all things in Christ the One strengthening me.

Dan 10:20 LITV

(20)  And he said, Do you know why I have come to you? And now I will return to fight with the ruler of Persia. And when I have gone out, then, lo, the ruler of Greece shall come.

In verse 20 the man of God indicated to Daniel in a clear and concise manner the events that were going to take place.  In an interesting simple question, the man of God asks Daniel if he (Daniel) knew why He (the man of God) had come to visit Daniel.  As we had seen before in this Bible Study, God always tell us what He has plan for us, but is up to us to have a heart set and ready to be perceptive to the message and being humble enough to ask to God for forgiveness when we are in His presence.

In this verse 20 the angel of God tells Daniel in regard to the “ruler of Persia” also about the “ruler of Greece”, these we had seeing thru ought chapter 2, chapter 7 and chapter 8 of this Book of Daniel.  See please the file “Table of Correlation of Images in the Book of Daniel” presented in this Bible Study for your convenience.  Noticed also and more importantly how the angel indicates how he(the angel of God), must return to fight with the ruler of Persia and right after the ruler of Persia the ruler of Greece follows.  There is a very important point in all these, and that is that as in the Book of Romans chapter 8 verses 28 said:

Rom 8:27-28 LITV

(27)  But the One searching the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because He petitions on behalf of the saints according to God.

(28)  But we know that to the ones loving God all things work together for good, to those being called according to purpose;

Rom 8:37-39 LITV

(37)  But in all these things we more than conquer through Him loving us.

(38)  For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

(39)  nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Ecc 3:1 LITV

(1)  To all there is an appointed time, even a time for every purpose under the heavens:

Observe how is also use the word “ruler” in the above Book of Romans Chapter 8 Verse 38.  We are and cannot be afraid; fear is not a spirit of God.

Dan 10:21 LITV

(21)  But I will tell you what is written in the Scripture of Truth. And no one makes himself strong with me in these things except Michael your ruler.

The man of God tells the reason he (the man of God) came to Daniel, and that was to tell Daniel of these things to come, which are written in the Scripture of Truth (this term used in this particular en of the chapter it is indicative of how truthful is God’s Word).  He continue saying to Daniel how no one will make themselves strong in these events except “Michael” your ruler.

Daniel and the 70 Weeks

Before starting to discussed Chapter 9 in the Book of Daniel, I must apologize to all my followers and readers of my Blog for me being absent for so many weeks due to personal obligations.

There is imperative to mention that the Book of Daniel is one of the most authenticated Books of the Bible, even so that Jesus Himself mentioned Daniel as part of the writings while on His time on Earth.  This serves to facilitate and help to establish its existence before the events predicted in the Book of Daniel.

This Chapter 9 in the Book of Daniel is an incredible and fascinating chapter.

We as believers must remember that as it is reminded to us in 2nd Thessalonians 2:

2Th 2:2-15 LITV

(2)  for you not to be quickly shaken in the mind, nor to be disturbed, neither through a spirit, nor through speech, nor through letter, as through us, as if the Day of Christ has come.

(3)  Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, because that Day will not come unless first comes the falling away, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,

(4)  the one opposing and exalting himself over everything being called God, or object of worship, so as for him “to sit in the temple of God” as God, setting forth himself, that he is God. Dan. 11:36; Eze. 28:2

(5)  Do you not remember that I told you these things, I yet being with you?

(6)  And now you know the thing holding back, for him to be revealed in his time.

(7)  For the mystery of lawlessness already is working, only he is holding back now, until it comes out of the midst.

(8)  And then “the Lawless One” will be revealed, “whom” “the Lord” “will consume” “by the spirit of His mouth,” and will bring to nought by the brightness of His presence. Isa. 11:4

(9)  His coming is according to the working of Satan in all power and miraculous signs and lying wonders,

(10)  and in all deceit of unrighteousness in those being lost, because they did not receive the love of the truth in order for them to be saved.

(11)  And because of this, God will send to them a working of error, for them to believe the lie,

(12)  that all may be judged, those not believing the truth, but who have delighted in unrighteousness.

(13)  But we ought to thank God always concerning you, brothers, beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth,

(14)  to which He called you through our gospel, to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

(15)  So, then, brothers, stand firm and strongly hold the teachings you were taught, whether by word or by our letter.

This is the time for us to approach the Word of God in a diligent manner and start to indulge ourselves in it with the truth of His Word…

Dan 9:1 LITV

(1)  In the first year of Darius, the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans,

In this verse, the Holy Spirit thru the writer of the Book is giving us the exact time for the events narrated in this particular chapter.  Keep in mind that the events of this chapter happened before the end of Chapter 6 (please referred to the table of chronological order of the Book of Daniel base on Chapters mentioned during the discussion of chapter one in this Blog).

Daniel’s Timeline Based on Chapters on PDF (click in this link until you see the image in a PDF File)

It is believed that the person here mentioned “Darius”, not only was from the kingdom of the Medes (which as you remembered at the end of chapter 5 in this Book of Daniel took over the Babylonian empire without a battle and killing Nebuchadnezzar successor, Belshazzar the king, please read the following:

Dan 5:1 LITV

(1)  Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his nobles. And he drank wine before the thousand.

Dan 5:30-31 LITV

(30)  In that night Belshazzar, the king of the Chaldeans, was killed.

(31)  And Darius the Mede took the kingdom, being a son of sixty two years.

Please noticed it is mentioned that he (Darius) was from the Medes.  Many theologians, teachers, leaders and preachers, even many historians, indicate that the Persian King Cyrus placed this person on power; I tend to disagree to this statement (but of course I am a humble servant of the Lord).  There was a custom among kingdoms on ancient times, while on war; they tried to avoid such in every way the loss of men of war and minimizing hostilities using political venues to achieve the assimilation of other countries or kingdoms without great economical loss.  As a result of our analysis we could concluded that once the Medes took over the Babylonian kingdom killing, as mentioned before at the end of chapter 5, Belshazzar the Babylonian king, they also were taking over or better yet assimilated by the Persian Kingdom mentioned in the Book of Daniel as the “Ram” in chapter 8 of the Book.

Dan 9:2 LITV

(2)  in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood the number of the years by books, which had been a Word of Jehovah to Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

Here in this verse there are several interesting things to point out, not seen by the naked eye of the non believer, those are the following:

  1. Number of the years by books (plural on the “books” and singular on the “number”).  The books were the writings of the prophets and the number 70.
  2. Was predicted by the Word of God to Jeremiah the prophet
  3. Seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem

Three important and very significant points to analyzed in this verse.

Jer 25:11-12 LITV

(11)  And this whole land shall be a waste and a horror; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

(12)  And it shall be, when seventy years are fulfilled, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, and the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, says Jehovah; and I will make it everlasting ruins.

Jer 29:10 LITV

(10)  For so says Jehovah, When according to My mouth seventy years have been fulfilled for Babylon, I will visit you and confirm My good Word to you, to bring you back to this place.

It has been 67 years that had passed until this moment in were Daniel is seeing this vision on chapter 9.

There is also a remarkable point, if you read this chapter in original Greek, the Word “YHWH” is mentioned 7 times in this chapter only.

Dan 9:3 LITV

(3)  And I set my face toward the Lord God, to seek by prayer and holy desires, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.

It is remarkable once again how Daniel is not only an example to us today in his life as a man of God but more so using the resources available for those that are in the Lord and those are:

  1. Prayer
  2. Fasting
  3. Spiritual humbleness

Dan 9:4 LITV

(4)  And I prayed to Jehovah my God, and made my confession, saying, O Lord, the great and awesome God, keeping the covenant and mercy of those who love Him, and to those who keep His commandments,

In verse 4 Daniel commence to pray to the Lord God, and as you noticed the first thing he (Daniel) mention was “made my confession”, in accordance with the strong numbers this word is as follow:

H3034

ידה

yâdâh

yaw-daw’

A primitive root; used only as denominative from H3027; literally to use (that is, hold out) the hand; physically to throw (a stone, an arrow) at or away; especially to revere or worship (with extended hands); intensively to bemoan (by wringing the hands): – cast (out), (make) confess (-ion), praise, shoot, (give) thank (-ful, -s, -sgiving).

The first words out of the mouth of Daniel’s prayer are words of praising and exalting the Only Living God.  Let’s take this prayer by sections.

After Daniel exalted God in his beginning of the prayer, Daniel mentioned qualities from God to those call His followers and more so qualities in conjunctions with responsibilities from those call His followers.

Qualities from God to us mentioned in this verse:

  1. Keeping the covenant
  2. Merciful to those who love Him
  3. Merciful to those who keep His commandments (plural word)

Dan 9:5-6 LITV

(5)  we have sinned and have committed iniquity and have done evilly, and we have rebelled, even by departing from Your commandments and from Your judgments.

(6)  And we have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our rulers, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

Qualities from us to God:

  1. Sinned
  2. Committed Iniquity
  3. Done Evilly
  4. Rebelled
  5. Departed from God’s Commandments
  6. Departed from God’s Judgments
  7. Not Listened to Your servants

Dan 9:7-8 LITV

(7)  O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us the shame of our faces, as it is this day to the men of Judah, and to those living in Jerusalem, and to all Israel, who are near and who are afar through all the lands where You have driven them for their unfaithfulness which they have done against You.

(8)  O Lord, shame of face belongs to us, to our kings, to our rulers and to our fathers, because we have sinned against You.

In verses 7 and 8 Daniel praise God once again before proceeding to the next chapter of his prayer.  Immediately after doing so, Daniel admitted to God the shamefulness of our lives as a result of our behavior.  Also observe how Daniel mentioned in the beginning of his prayer the “men of Judah” and continues thru out with those “living in Jerusalem”, and ending with “all Israel”.

There is a believe, that some of the tribes of Israel disappeared from the face of earth, but as we know, God is not a man to lie nor son of man to lie either.  It is my believe that at the moment the people of Israel were overpowered by other kingdoms, some members of the “North Kingdom” also known as “Israel”, came to the “South Kingdom” also known as “Judah” looking for support from their own.  As a result of such actions, the remnant was a complete representation of the House of Israel.

Dan 9:9-11 LITV

(9)  To the Lord our God belong mercies and pardons, for we have rebelled against Him.

(10)  We have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in His laws which he set before us by His servants the prophets.

(11)  Yea, all Israel has transgressed Your Law and turned aside that they might not obey Your voice. For this reason the curse has poured out on us, and the oath that is written in the Law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him.

Daniel continues declaring how imperfect is the men even to the point of not being capable to follow the Law and path of our God the Lord.

Dan 9:12-13 LITV

(12)  And He has confirmed His Words which He spoke against us, and against our judges who judge us, by bringing on us a great evil. For under the whole heavens it has not been done as it has been done to Jerusalem.

(13)  As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this evil has come on us. Yet we did not make our prayer before Jehovah our God that we might turn from our perversities and understand Your truth.

In verse 12, Daniel declared how God confirmed His Words…   Remembered this is based on the Book of Jeremiah that Daniel himself was capable to understand by one of the manifestation of the Holy Spirit of God described in Isaiah 11:2 (read below)

Isa 11:2 LITV

(2)  And the Spirit of Jehovah shall rest on Him; He will have the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and power, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Jehovah.  (This verse speaks about the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior, but it does describe the seven manifestations of the Holy Spirit of God).

Dan 9:14-16 LITV

(14)  And Jehovah has looked on the evil and has made it come on us. For Jehovah our God is righteous in all His works which He does. For we did not obey His voice.

(15)  And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and made for Yourself a name, as it is this day; we have sinned; we have done evilly.

(16)  O Lord, I pray to You, according to all Your righteousness, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain. For because of our sins and of our fathers’ iniquities, Jerusalem and Your people have become a reproach to all those around us.

Daniel continued declaring to God His glory and pleading for His mercy.

The intensity of Daniel’s prayer is to the point of feeling his emotional and physical exhaustion and much more.

In our spiritual lives there is a battle not with the physical world but with the spiritual world.  As it is said by apostle Paul in Ephesians:

Eph 6:11-12 LITV

(11)  Put on all the armor of God, for you to be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil,

(12)  because wrestling against flesh and blood is not to us, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world’s rulers, of the darkness of this age, against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenlies.

Dan 9:18-23 LITV

(18)  O my God, bow down Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our ruins and the city which is called by Your name. For we do not make our prayers fall before You on account of our righteousnesses, but because of Your great mercies.

(19)  O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, attend to us and work! Do not delay, for Your own sake, O my God. For Your name is called on Your city and on Your people.

(20)  And while I was speaking and praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and making my cry fall before Jehovah my God for the holy mountain of my God,

(21)  and while I was setting my prayer in order, then the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, touched me in my severe exhaustion about the time of the evening sacrifice.

(22)  And he enlightened me and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I have now come out to give you skill in understanding.

(23)  At the beginning of your prayers the word came forth, and I have come to explain it. For you are greatly beloved. Then consider the matter and understand the vision:

From verses 18 throughout 23 Daniel in respond to his supplication and desire for the forgiving mercy of God, the angel Gabriel was sent to Daniel with one of the manifestations of the Holy Spirit, understanding.  Daniel, with the mercy of the Only Living God, will be able now to understand the vision given to him by God, and with an answer sent from God to him thru the angel Gabriel.

Now, this is the part in where the angel Gabriel gives understanding to Daniel by the mercy of God.  I like to ask you for your full attention while I display the prophecy in a simple way to understand it.  You, in the other hand, might disagree with me and I will respect and understand so, but I hope in the Lord our Savior we can agree in one thing that is that the Lord is coming soon!!!

Dan 9:24 LITV

(24)  Seventy weeks are decreed as to your people, and as to your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make atonement for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy.

In verse 24 there are total of 70 weeks for the decreed to take place, with a remarkable moments of happiness at those 70 weeks.  Those are:

  1. finish the transgression,
  2. end of sins (plural word not a singular term),
  3. make atonement for iniquity,
  4. bring in everlasting righteousness,
  5. seal up the vision,
  6. seal up the prophecy,
  7. anoint the Most Holy.

Dan 9:25 LITV

(25)  Know, then, and understand that from the going out of a word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem, to Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks and sixty two weeks. The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in times of affliction.

The Word of God is very clear when you allow the Holy Spirit to guide you…  Let’s see this verse 25.

Know, then, and understand that from the going out of a word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem, to Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks

If we use simple mathematical calculations we can say this:

Time Table of the Weeks on Daniel 9  (click on this link until you see the image on a PDF File Format)

360-Day Years Calendar historical background: All ancient calendars were based on a 360-day calendar: Assyrians, Chaldeans, Egyptians, Hebrews, Persians, Greeks, Phoenicians, Chinese, Mayans, Hindus, Carthaginians, Etruscans, Teutons, etc.  All these calendars were based on a 360-day year; typically, twelve 30-day months. (In ancient Chaldea, their calendar was based on a 360-day year and it is from this Babylonian tradition that we have 360 degrees in a circle, 60 minutes to an hour, 60 seconds in each minute.)  Was not but until later in history at around the beginning of the 1st century that the Julian Calendar was adopted with the leap year was introduced (maybe –46 BCE).

  • From the moment the Jews are sent to restored the city to the moment of the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks = 7(weeks) x 7(days) x 360 (days based on the Jewish calendar) = 17640 days.  From the time of the decreed from Cyrus The Persian and in accordance with “The Time Tables of History” 3rd revised edition and written by Bernard Grun, based upon Werner Stein’s Kulturfahrplan around this date the Torah becomes the moral essence of the Jewish State.  Base on our calendar the date should be March/14/445 BCE.

… and sixty two weeks…

  • From the time when the Torah became the moral essence of the Jewish State, We will take those 62 weeks.  62(weeks) x 7(days) x 360 (days Jewish calendar) = 156240 days.  If we plot those days on the human historical time table as we did with the above days, we will end at the moment of the Triumphal Entry of Jesus Christ The King:  Please read the following Mathew 21: 1-9; Mark 11: 1-10; Luke 19: 29-39; John 12: 12-16.  This is approximately, sometimes in April/06/32 CE.

Zec 9:9 LITV

(9)  Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King comes to you! He is righteous and being victorious, humble, and riding on an ass, even on a colt, the son of an ass.

Luk 19:37-38 LITV

(37)  And as He was already drawing near to the descent of the Mount of Olives, all the multitude of the disciples began rejoicing, to praise God with a loud voice concerning all the works of power which they saw,

(38)  saying, “Blessed is the One coming in the name of the Lord,” the King. Peace in Heaven, and glory in the highest! Psa. 118:26

Dan 9:26 LITV

(26)  And after sixty two weeks, Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself. And the people of a coming ruler shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end shall be with the flood, and ruins are determined, and war shall be until the end.

In the 26th verse it is described how the Lord Jesus Christ will be rejected and crucified.  In and about 70 CE, the Romans destroyed the Temple.  Noticed how the verse indicates that the people of a coming ruler (in a lower case, indicative of the anti-Christ (impostor)), also it does said about the wars and rumors of war, etc.

Dan 9:27 LITV

(27)  And he shall confirm a covenant with the many for one week. And in the middle of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease. And on a corner of the altar will be abominations that desolate, even until the end. And that which was decreed shall pour out on the desolator.

In verse 27 it does continue describing the ruler with a lowercase “he”, “shall confirm covenant with many for one week”, noticed the used of the preposition “shall” which is indicative of a command or in an authoritarian way (no choice), confirm covenant with many, and the word “many” may indicate “Israel”, read below:

Isa 28:14-18 LITV

(14)  So hear the Word of Jehovah, scornful men, rulers of this people in Jerusalem.

(15)  Because you have said, We have cut a covenant with death; and, We have made a vision with Sheol, when the overwhelming rod passes through it will not come to us for we have made the lie our refuge, and we have hidden in falsehood.

(16)  So, the Lord Jehovah says this: Behold, I place in Zion a Stone for a foundation, a tried Stone, a precious Cornerstone, a sure Foundation; he who believes shall not hasten.

(17)  And I will lay justice for a line, and righteousness for a plummet; and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of the lie; and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

(18)  And your covenant with death shall be covered; and your vision with Sheol shall not rise up. When the overwhelming whip passes through, then you shall be for a trampling to it.

So in accordance with the Word of God, in the Book of Daniel chapter 9 verses 27 the anti-Christ will renew the covenant with Israel for seven years, but after 3 ½ years he will break such covenant.  If you wish to know more details about these events, read Revelation chapters 6 through 19 to see the events on the 70th week of Daniel.

This particular impostor will not be capable to imposed the covenant but after is on power, also cannot appear until the “Holy Spirit” is removed, the Holy Spirit indwell in the Church.  Please read below:
